San Miguel de Allende is a global favorite I'd like to visit some day.

I personally like Los Mochis and Mazatlan, they have nice beaches (for the Pacific) and there's a ton of Colonial arquitecture. Sinaloa in general has best food in Mexico, and very sexy women).

Guadalajara is a nice city with classic elements as well as new-age concepts and beautiful castiza bitches everywhere downtown.

My parents lived in Cozumel for a while and my dad loved it because of the beautiful diving. He was from New York and loved the heat and warm clear waters of the Caribbean.

Been to Mexico City before, though there's a lot of things to do & though there's lovely parts to the city and gorgeous women, I find it boring.

If you like colonial history, look up "Pueblos Magicos". The government had a program to preserve historical places so they have homes and streets made in the colonial era with fresh paint that people still live in, & they run the telephone lines underground to help preserve that old-age aesthetic. Mexican churches are based btw, most of them are Cathedrals.

Sonora is fucking ugly, it's basically the Nevada of Mexico but with a coastline. If you like sand dunes and clean (but dark & cold) water in the heat, then check out Puerto Peñasco. Every year in April a ton of Americans go down and they have a lot of off-roading. The city itself is the most ghetto place I've been in Mexico and I've been in a ton of places.

Yucatan is also nice, but it's very hot. They have a ton of colonial-era buildings. I recommend Merida if visiting, wasn't impressed with the rest of the state.

Quintana Roo is very very humid and hot, and if you go away from the Cancun/Tulum and pyramid areas it gets poor quick due to the very very large presence of Mayans who were still fighting the Mexican Government in the 1900s and didn't become a state until the 70s. If you do venture away though, I HIGHLY recommend you visit Bacalar. It's absolutely beautiful
