A few years back, one of your corporations literally sued a country who wanted to stop selling their products there, because they were effectively being fucked over by the corporation. The country literally didn't have the money to fight the case in the international trade courts so they were forced to allow their local market to continue being fucked so this American corporation could continue to profit.

Granted, in the 60s medical care was pretty limited by modern standards, still, even back then one would have to be pretty dumb to think Australia had a more healthful climate for human beings to live in.

Sure not people who evolved for the conditions of northwestern Europe at any rate.

Even the aboriginal populations didn't live anything like we do. Their social groups were relatively tiny, mostly scattered around the coolest places with water and shade. The scattered mobs who lived around the top end and further inland also based their lifestyles around the climate. Certainly not in hot rooms or working for 40+ hours a week.
It's kind of ridiculous how most of us live here. It would have been more practical to take a more Mediterranean approach, at least those living in the water climates, and take advantage of the later evening to be more active but instead Australia set out to industrialise in a Western European mindset. Instead of calling a lot of the labour intensive working schedules, etc., "fucking stupid", we call it "hard yakka". As we all know, working stupidly hard against the climate, chopping down hectares of gum trees and establishing pasture means a non-insignificant part of the economy should be based around pretending like industry and farmland in places with constant droughts and heatwaves is fine and ideal because we are an Anglo nation, just like England.
It's as though we chased an ideal instead of accepting the reality of the terrain. I mean, fucking look at us: one of the largest consumers and exporters of beef and grain, water heavy products, in a continent that is a good 90% arid and the "productive" regions are a constant struggle because that shit didn't spend millions of years evolving to thrive there. So many kangaroos that they are culled, healthier meat compared to cows, yet we raise and consume more cattle than almost anywhere else on the planet. How fucking retarded is that? People spend stupid amounts on imported kangaroo steaks and at best we view them as pests that can wreck your car.
