In reality it mostly bothers me that I cant make a gun on my own and I cant maintain it on my own. No self-reliance in it. I tried learning how to make bows when I was a kid but I was living in an urban enviroment and my parents discouraged me.

I bought a romanian AKM clone a few years ago but I never go shooting because I generally can't stand the kinds of people who frequent gun ranges. I really don't like gun people for the most part, especially the boomer ones who shill for the NRA.

You can make the gun in a SHTF scenario, it's designed so that you can manufacture it in your garage without any specialises tools. IIRC, all of the components are easily purchased from a hardware store, so they'd still be lying around if society collapsed completely. Also when you have the gun, you will still retain it in SHTF and the only real issue then is the ammo.

None of my guns have had any part failures in all of the 5 years that I've had them and I've put thousands of rounds through them. Thousands of rounds is far more than you will ever use in a shtf-scenario. Besides, I have a spare firing pin and bolt ready for my AR.

Gun maintenance is pretty simple, and you only ever really need to do it after you've shot. And even then it's not really necessary, as there are numerous examples of people who haven't ever cleaned their rifles, and they still run fine. Search around on jewtube.
That's better than nothing. I have both as well, but guns are far safer and more efficient than risking a scuffle.

Also, knives require maintenance as well. Sharpening a blade takes far longer than cleaning a rifle, you know.
