In my experience, that was far from exclusive to culchies. There was an almost even split between the Macbook/unnecessarily high end laptop crowd and those that bought the first thing they saw on sale in PC World.

It was nearly entirely macbooks in my experience. A lot of people had cheap Dell or Asus laptops but they didn't seem to bring them to class very often.

I'd say that the breakdown depends heavily on the type of course you're attending.
