See item priced at $4.99

>See item priced at $4.99
>Go to pay
>"That'll be $5.73, sir"

Why do Americans tolerate this? What is wrong with us?

Attached: sddefault.jpg (640x480, 68K)

Most of us can do basic math.

it sounds cheaper so people are more likely to buy it maybe.

to remind you just how much the g*Vernment steals from the common man

if the tax is essential, why not just include it in the listed price?

it actually makes no sense and you literally cannot reasonably defend the system

Most of you cannot.

No sales tax in my state. suck it nerds.

The post you replied to already told you why.
Americans like to see low prices on the shelf because they are simpletons.

Enjoy your income tax

It's because of Retailers do this as an infantile protest against the fact that taxes exist.

>Most of us can do basic math.
Too bad it's inconsistent, so there are times when you can't actually know whether or not a retailer includes the tax in the price until it's too late.

this

To trick you into thinking it's cheap, same reason it's $4.99 and not $5

American marketing is genius (works only for stupid mutts).

only 7 states don't have income tax. nearly all of them still have sales tax though

>Why do Americans tolerate this?
Americans do not want to risk their life for $0.74

Because the store owners price is 4.99. He didn't set the sales tax.

>Get hit by car
>Taken by ambulance to nearest hospital
>It's out-of-network so your insurance doesn't cover it
>"That'll be $57,300, sir"

Why do Americans tolerate this? What is wrong with us?

He should set the price at $0 since he didn't set the cost of production and distribution

So you're fully aware of how much the government is stealing from you.

And?

and in conclusion, south dakota sucks ass.

This is dumb and only an American could think otherwise.

There are so many other direct and indirect costs associated with consumer goods, and taxation is just one of them. Singling out taxation as if it's inherently evil, but hiding, e.g., pollution and other "externalities," is idiotic. Why don't they also make explicit how much of the cost goes to executive bonuses or stock buybacks? Oh, right, because they are cunts

Dakotas are the best states, libtard.

That was one of my biggest problems going to America last year.
Got extremely confused when going shopping because I had no clue this is how you guys did things.
Here in Europe you pay the price that is on the tag/label. Nothing else.
Had to ask the hotel clerk one night why the heck no prices were accurate. She explained it to me.

Fuck off ya roundheaded goon

This makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyway, blame the government for this, sales tax should not exist in the first place.

Okay

No they aren't

you've obviously never been there. quite possibly the two worst states in the union.

It's stupid to single out taxation as if it's some kind of inherently different cost associated with the price of a consumer good than literally anything else correlated with the cost. It's serves no purpose beyond being ideologically bitchy and whining about taxes

Wait, almost 60k for an ambulance ride? For what distance?
I had both an air-evac by helicopter when out hiking and a 1 hour 35 minutes long ambulance ride when I was working in the woods.
Cost me nothing. How can it be that expensive? I get fuel costs, the actual medics need a salary, medical equipment and probably a clean after but 60 grand? What the hell. I could travel across Europe for a year with that money.

You've never been to the South.

do you count your pennies? life's hard?

It's not just the ambulance right, they charge you for everything here. Sometimes you get several different bills from several different corporations after visiting a hospital. You get a fee from the hospital, you get a fee from the doctor, you get a fee from the technician or specialist, you get a fee from the EMT, etc.

taxes are bullshit and wasted immensely because of bureaucracy lining the pockets of all levels of government, tax rates should be max 25%

Attached: taxes.png (1029x806, 967K)

nah the real simpletons are your kind who believe in 'free health care' and other 'free' shit taken out of your taxes. 'but it is free!'.

it’s because each county sets its own VAT I heard

Christ you are dumb. Even your pic is retarded. The reason why it costs the city $65,000 is because they have to hire professionals, and for liability reasons can't just have some jabroni do it for fun. Taxes have nothing to do with that.

>he believes random shit some stupid foreigners with burger flags post on Jow Forums

kys retard

>

Attached: vVkoPPU.gif (250x250, 992K)

That's not an argument. Each store also sets its own prices for items.

There is no VAT in the US and some states don't even have counties. You're right though that sales tax is local, which is why it varies so much

Jesus Christ. I guess everyone wants a cut.
When I go to my doctor, no matter what procedure is needed it will only cost me around 22 USD in total.
I know our systems are ridiculously different but I don't pay THAT much in tax.
Yet all the doctors, the hospital etc all get paid.

>your taxes
I'll never in my life be taxed at a rate that bothers me in any real sense. Anybody afraid of this is a fucking moron

The point is to take the money from the rich people you dumbass. It's not theirs anyways :-)

Yeah it's dumb here. There are a lot of Americans on Jow Forums who will try to make it seem like it isn't, but they are lying instead of just admitting how dumb it is. See I don't really get the point of lying about it. But I guess that's some people's reaction to shame

taxes fund the construction of the park stairs you fucking mong, also no, they're not estimating it's going to cost 65k because of "hiring professionals", they're doing it so they can justify using as much money as possible to fix a problem that could be solved at 1/4 the estimated cost while simultaneously lining their pockets and wasting the taxpayers money, are you seriously naive enough to believe that it costs 65k to build safety regulated stairs in a city park? the city even said themselves after this article came out that 65k was astronomically high.

But he is full of shit user and you are stupid enough to believe everything some random autists say on a anonymous anime board.

The store owners has already bought the product at wholesale price. Now he gets to set his own price at retail. And at the end the government tacks on their share, something that the store owner has no control over. I don't see where you are going with this.

It is not about the 'shame' retard. It's just you are lying about basic shit like an ambulance bill being 60k or whatever. That only works on foreigners who dont know shit.

His stairs were literally removed for safety reasons shitwit

But it's not just here. It's everywhere. Wasn't long ago the biggest news paper here in Sweden did an article about the costs of medical care in the USA. Even a quick google gives me some seriously disturbing numbers.
For example, the average cost for a broken arm (surgery not needed) is $2,500 as of 2017.
Without insurance that is.

Did he forget to buy a stairs license?

An emergency room visit for a car accident can easily cost $50k, stop lying. There is no point. Nobody believes you, and it's cringey

No, because an Amerishart isn't going to make the math themselves when they go shopping for groceries, and much less when buying plenty of articles.

"oh nice, this thing is for $5" and they put it in the cart. They're not going to be paying attention when they're at the check-out and the thing costs 6.25 instead. They'll just ask how much is it when the cashier is done checking all items and pay.

I really don't understand why he is trying to convince you that the opposite of a well-known fact is true. It's embarrassing.

You know you'd probably have a better sense of the world if you waited to grow up and pay taxes before you comment on how it all works.

>Without insurance
So we are talking about healthcare for those who have no insurance?

No health insurance? No car insurance? Nothing? Nice. Maybe that's your case, why should we care.

>something that the store owner has no control over
This is not actually true, since the tax is a function of the price that the store owner sets. The store owner could reduce his sales tax burden to $0 by charging $0.

There's no point splitting hairs here. Arbitrarily waiting until the point of sale in order to reveal whether or not the sales tax (or any other tax) is included in the price is meant to deceive the consumer on multiple levels. Defending it is idiotic

Don't worry, I don't trust him as far as I can spit.
I've seen the actual prices and seen what people pay when their insurance fucks them over. It's pretty fucked up.
If you ever come to Sweden, just visit a hospital and get everything done at once kek, they won't charge you a dime for it.

Actually thinking about it, a plane ticket to Arlanda Airport, taxi to the nearest hospital and a return flight home would probably be cheaper than using an ambulance in the states.

>So we are talking about healthcare for those who have no insurance?
Yes, had you read the actual comments then you would know that.. And it's a fair point since 44 million Americans don't have/isn't covered by insurance.

My week hospital stay, surgery and device implant cost me $1k because that is my max out of pocket. Maybe you need to stop flat out lying and exaggerating. Things are never as bad as you want others to believe.

Literally the only people who complain about taxes are (a) rich people and (b) people who are too young to have ever paid taxes (libertarians). Either way, I'm very happy when you have to pay more of your money in taxes, it fills me with joy

>No health insurance? No car insurance? Nothing? Nice. Maybe that's your case, why should we care.
I don't understand how you think this "tough guy" look impresses anybody, faggot

Each post you make you seem less capable of stringing together a coherent thought that communicates anything beyond solipsism

ummm not being fucked in the ass by the bourgeoisie in every possible situation is literally communism sweatie

Attached: el_presidento.jpg (1200x902, 109K)

But you at least understand that to be liable for the ambulance bill if you had a car accident you would have to have
- no health insurance
- no car insurance

>- no health insurance
>- no car insurance
And I have a feeling a lot of people lack that. Not to bash on your country but it isn't exactly poverty free.
And saying someone doesn't matter or doesn't deserve medical help because they are poor, that's would just be bad taste. Everyone, no matter their economical situation should have quality healthcare and such available. And not have to worry about thousands of dollars in debt.

But you realize it is illegal to drive without a car insurance?

Sure. Does that stop people?
I had a period in my life when my dad kicked me out under which I was homeless.
So I did what all desperate people do, I broke the law. I stole, I sold illegal things, I slept in places where it was illegal to sleep.
I even drove a car to get to another city where I finally got a job and an apartment. Without a drivers license.

Things people do when they have no other choice might seem bad to someone who has everything but for those people it's how you survive.
And sure, some assholes live like that on purpose. They break the law just so they can save a few bucks when they really could pay for stuff. World isn't perfect. But everyone should still have free/cheap but good healthcare around. No one should have to sell their house or pay of debts for several decades because they broke a leg or something. It's just wrong.

Fair enough. I am not saying 'fuck them it is their fault'. It is just the cherry picked scare stores like the ones itt make it sound like it is the norm. It is not.

You can have health insurance and still have to pay out of pocket if you aren't in-network. Stop saying "have health insurance" as if all forms of health insurance are the same. Some plans are terrible. Even good plans are not going to cover you in some cases, even when you would expect it. It really seems like you don't know what you're talking about, which would indicate that you probably just don't actually have any experience working in the real world

ever heard of VAT, faggot?

>>- no health insurance

When Americans say this they mean they don't have private healthcare, they will have shitty government healthcare

>if you aren't in-network
if you are dumb enough, yes. if that happens by mistake or in case of an emergency like a car accident you should be able to sort that out with your insurance company. but if you want to argue from the worst case point of view then go ahead, i don't care.

You mean that thing that's already included in the price by default?

our whole country summed up in one picture. Steal from the rapidly dissolving middle class to line the pockets of whoever happens to be in charge for their 4 years dictatorship term.

I have a family member who works for the city and if you believe any of that you're retarded.

yeah that thing that is 3(!) times higher in your country than the sales tax in my state.

Why are you presenting months of disputing thousands of dollars in charges with insurance companies and various service providers as if it isn't some kind of hellacious Kafkaesque nightmare? It happens often enough, shut the fuck up

Every time this issue is mentioned on Jow Forums, there is always some pathetic cretin like you who tries to make it seem like it's a rarity or only happens to dumb/deserving people. When you lie like this, it makes us all look just as pathetic by association. Please stop

gotta pay the other 64.5k to thieves in government

does your dad work for Nintendo?

That's nice.
You still pay more in total for public services than I do though, and I can use them at no cost.

>often enough
Really? How often though? Out of literally BILLIONS of annual insurance claims? Do you have any stats? Shit happens everywhere from time to time. You may have had a bad experience with your insurance company. And now you seem to be on a mission to convince Jow Forums it is a fundamental problem of the private health care whereas one can cherry pick horror stories like this about any system.
>make us all look just as pathetic
my thoughts exactly about you. you just help spread the memes and confuse retards on Jow Forums even further.

>Literally the only people who complain about taxes are (a) rich people and (b) people who are too young to have ever paid taxes (libertarians). Either way, I'm very happy when you have to pay more of your money in taxes, it fills me with joy

Nope. The ultra wealthy know how to avoid taxes. The upper-middle class tends to be left/liberal, likely because they were indoctrinated by left-wing profs when they were younger. Also they can afford it and being a liberal gives them a sense of superiority. Meanwhile it is the blue collar worker who HATES taxation. These people work very hard in shitty jobs and at the end of the day they often don't make out much better than the welfare bum who knows how to work system.
