This. It was perhaps the only real social movement with legitimacy, even if it was abit awkward and vague.
Once feminists, etc entered in, it became an actual joke. (feminists typically try to look for social movements and piggyback off them and pull attention toward themselves). I wouldn't really write off the theory that the social justice identity movement was a manufactured reaction to distract away from a social movement about money toward one about identity.
I think OWS hit abit too close to home, and powers that be easily turned it into a divisive movement that's not about the corrupt monetary/debt system into one where the lower classes fight each other over what their race/gender/religion is. We've never left this phase in thinking since it was born.
