The time to buy coinbase was before 2017. They are way too costly to justify at this point. Given that there's just a handful of exchanges and it's still early on in the game, it makes no financial sense to compete with coinbase. You can set something up with far less resources than it would take to buy it at this point. The only times facebook buys anything is when it's a marketing vector or they're way too behind on it.
Because 99% of icos running ads were scams and they didn't want to be complicit or end up on any news stations for getting local grandma bankrupt.
