kek, nobody in geopolitics ever cares about rightfulness or law. They will back whatever is convenient for them. Latin America wanted to get rid of any form of colonialism in the region so they agreed to kick the brits out. Chile and Argentina however had conflicting border interests in south of Patagonia and were hostile to each other back then (both also under a totalitarian dictatorship iirc). They almost went to war for the Beagle so of course Chile wouldn't help them.
