Is it hard to emmigrate and integrate? The company I work for has an office in Bogota so in case some miracle happens I would probably have an easier time getting a job than just fucking off there at random and trying to look for one on my own.
How's the cost of living? Can you rent a decent-sized flat in the capital city for reasonable money? Are tourists and European immigrants harassed? Do I risk getting gutted in some dark alleyway while drunk? How's the IT sector? I'm not looking into becoming filthy rich, but can you live decently while working in IT in South America?
Colombians, other south americans and people who have been to colombia welcome.
Do it bro, if you work for a euro company and make euro wages you can live like a king, cute latinas will be interested in you because youre foreign and they think you have money, you can escape shitty european winter and enjoy the sun year round, better food.
Mason Lewis
I'm too lazy to answer all that. You are at risk of getting gutted in a dark alleyway though.
Jordan Morgan
Stay the fuck out of my continent
Wyatt Perry
Bogota is the south american capital with the best climate.
Luke King
They will treat you fine, and will provide you a gf or a donkey on arrival
Robert Morales
which city?
Jacob Howard
>Can you rent a decent-sized flat in the capital city for reasonable money? Yes >Do I risk getting gutted in some dark alleyway while drunk? Yes >can you live decently while working in IT in South America? Yes
Bogota is pretty safe compared to the rest of Colombia and it has a nice infraestructure overall, girls are hot too right lmao
Jason Rivera
>Do it bro, if you work for a euro company and make euro wages you can live like a king About that yeah. I currently make about 1850 USD a month before tax.
Is it enough to have for an appartment, a car, decent food and still have something left for "frivolities"?
Jaxon Long
yea of course, sudacas are poor lol.
Christian Nelson
>About that yeah. I currently make about 1850 USD a month before tax. In Colombia, yes
Ethan Barnes
I don't think it's enough to live like a king user, that's less than what an engineer makes here in his first year working. You'll be middle upper class maybe but you won't have it easy getting a car and traveling. Maybe try Bolivia Colombia isn't that poor
Christopher Cox
>Colombia isn't that poor No va en eso, Colombia es más barato que acá, en especial con los arriendos y el mercado inmobiliario
Jaxson White
What are good countries for i.t in south america ? I never really thought any of the countries in SA had any worthwhile options. I want to live somewhere warm :(
Dominic Wood
Colombia has probably the hardest citizenship policy in South America (you need to live here for like 5+ years after getting permanent residency, even after marrying you need to live here for 5 years. We are the only country without ius solis. The easiest one is probably Argentina, you should check them out
Mason Miller
>How's Colombia for a """"white"""" European? Dunno, throughout our history we've only gotten southern Euros, mainly Spaniards with some italians here and there. However, the main group of tourists and expats are Americans but they can be anything, so don't take that as Colombi being a goodplace for whites. Regarding climate Bogota is overcast most of the time so you won't get sunburns but when it is sunny you will probably want to stay in the shade or use sunscreen >Is it hard to emmigrate and integrate? Yes it's kinda a long process. Regarding integration, it'll be quite smooth as long as you can speak spanish as only like 4% of the people here know english >The company I work for has an office in Bogota so in case some miracle happens I would probably have an easier time getting a job than just fucking off there at random and trying to look for one on my own. Which company? If they offer you relocation option you will probably make a salary high enough to live in a nice neighborhoods. >How's the cost of living? About $1k USD is enough for middle class >Can you rent a decent-sized flat in the capital city for reasonable money? About $500 for middle class condo >Are tourists and European immigrants harassed? no, never heard of it >Do I risk getting gutted in some dark alleyway while drunk? yes, always use fucking Uber if you plan on getting drunk >How's the IT sector? lots of companies and options >but can you live decently while working in IT in South America? yes, depending on your position and if you are professional you can make upwards of $2k
Camden Anderson
> I want to live somewhere warm :(
Australia and NZ. We're still third world here.
Liam Nguyen
>>Can you rent a decent-sized flat in the capital city for reasonable money? About $500 for middle class condo Reassuring
>Colombia has probably the hardest citizenship policy in South America (you need to live here for like 5+ years after getting permanent residency, even after marrying you need to live here for 5 years. We are the only country without ius solis. Not so much. Why so hard?
>The easiest one is probably Argentina, you should check them out I think I would prefer the climate and landscape of Colombia more than Argentina.
Thanks for your input.
Xavier Wilson
>IT >South America lol
Angel Nelson
West, north and part of east Bogota is unironically "1st or 2nd world-ish" depending on where you are. Avoid the south tho
>1850 USD a month before tax That's slightly less than what my dad makes to support a household of 4. That money for you alone will let you live a really nice place, buy a car and buy whatever at the supermarket or even eat out frequently
Speak for yourself, Colombia is pretty much first world by all standards
Cameron Jackson
>Why so hard? I don't know why. But for exmplewe had a migraton crisis from venezuelans and the kids of venezuelans born here are not colmbian, they are "apatridas" (aren't citizens of any country). They can only claim venezuelan citizenship once they return. If I'm not mistaken only Spaniards get a special treatment for citizenship
Michael Price
Not true, but whatever. Please crawl back into your containment thread
Colombia is completely fine. Bogota and Medellin are pretty developed. The middle-upper class neighborhoods feel pretty much first world apart from the street sellers that come from the lower class neighborhoods. At least that's the impression I got when I was there.
Hardest part would be the language. Start learning spanish asap because that will make everything easier.
