Why do they keep saying they're not a Latin country?

Why do they keep saying they're not a Latin country?
Why do they hate being associated with Southern Europeans whether it's genetically or culturally?

Literally every retard call us G*rmoid, while we are in fact Romance/Celt just because a tiny portion of land in the east and North is "Germanic" (debatable btw)

They do it all the time on Jow Forums.

I mean, have you seen the state of Italy and Spain? What's wrong with trying to distance ourselves from that, especially when we were the only successful Latin country in pre-modern and modern times? We want to have a low unemployment rate and a high quality of life like the Netherlands. We don't want to be southern Europeans.

this

why would anyone want to be a brown lazy manlet

>Why do they keep saying they're not a Latin country?
Because we partly are. It's hard to say what France exactly is since it has always been at Europe's crossroads and therefore we have received and mingled with Romans, Northmen (Normands), Celts, Germans and so on and so forth.
But the Gauls have been colonized and influenced by Roman civilisation for hundred of years and French is undeniably a Latin language.

> Why do they hate being associated with Southern Europeans whether it's genetically or culturally?
Never heard one French person say that - maybe an African French would say that and even then I'd doubt he'd give a fuck.
Generally speaking, we tend to be very fond of our Italians and Spanish neighbours - though we have our fair share of banter regarding them (and the opposite is true).

I don't. I definite myself as a Celt with a Latin culture, but it's true, I wish we kept our Celtic culture.

i mean it for real though

The argument isn't that we're not Latin. Our greatest leaders thought of France as a Latin country--Philip II styled himself after a Roman emperor, Louis XIV censored a man who theorised that the Franks came from South Germany, Napoleon shaped the country and its institutions after Rome, and Charles de Gaulle defined our culture as "Greco-Roman". We just have a different relationship towards Rome. Where Italians see Rome as the earliest stage of their history, we see Romans as our conquerors, those who brought civilisation to us and created the basis for our language, institutions, legal system, political system. Whereas we tend to identify with the Gauls as our ancestors. Then we idolise the Franks, even though we aren't predominantly descended from them; but we do owe them for our country.
We strongly feel that this triple heritage makes us different from literally anyone else in Europe, not just south Europeans. The same goes for Brits, who aren't really Germans or Celts.

Thanks, user.
Yep, I've always considered the Brits and Britain its own thing, but when it comes to France, I've always considered it to be very similar to Italy, like brothers. You both have that "Romantic culture", similar architecture, similar similar flag and share a history.

France is better than both countries, especially Spain with their unemployment rate worse than ours, but not so long ago Italy was the most powerful country in Europe economically.

Are you even Italian? I've met Italians and they're always proud of their country.

That'd be based, more diversity (I mean diversity among Europeans).

A lot of people think of France as its own thing too. The proof is that most maps classify France as Western Europe in spite of our Romance culture.
Fact is, we've always had more defined relationships with countries from the north(Franco-British rivalry, Franco-German enmity, Franco-Belgian comics), so we feel closer to them today in a weird way. So we do feel different from south Europeans, but I reassure you; we're perfectly aware that we're very similar to them. In the end, we just want to be our own thing and to be thought of as such.

only poor shitskins like romanians or latin americans call themselves latin/latino

If I were them I would take pride not being like Germany and being part of an interesting branch of Latins
At the end of the day we rarely think of them
Oh well
Each of its own I guess

you're obsessed with us

I don't remember who said it but it stuck with me: the french are grumpy italians

>on Jow Forums
uh

Real talk, why am I getting TGV ads? It wasn't like that a few hours ago.

>Romans
>Northmen (Normands)
love that maymay

Because they secretly love us, they're just too shy to admit it

This thread is full of brainlets

Not in this modern era
Nobody wants to be like France since it is not seen as good as Germany or UK

There's a few Italian posters here who are obsessed with France, and from the few interactions I had with you guys on normie social media like Facebook I'm pretty convinced that you have something of an inferiority complex for us

I know that. In Brazil we use the word "latino" to describe ou neighbors, the Spanish speaking countries. We see ourselves as our own thing, but it doesn't mean we're not Latino by the real definition. Europeans called each others "latins" before Latin America was even a thing. We Latin Americans are nothing like "Latin Europeans", I'm not trying to include my country among the Romance speaking group of Europe.

>we just want to be our own thing and to be thought of as such

Based, the relation between France and Germany is getting stronger and stronger as we speak, so I'd say you're more related to Germany at the moment indeed, whether it's for the better or worse.

I don't like to compare my Portuguese speaking country with other Latin countries too. Despite many similarities, we're our own thing after all.

There are some terrones who hate Franve because their subhuman brains tell them to
For us normal Italians we mind our own business and we actually focus on things we differs from you like luxury cars or our metallurgy and industry based economy (similiar to Germany)
While France from what I can see is more service oriented (similiar to UK)

France is a country of Celts named after a Germanic tribe who speak Latin. They cluster genetically with both sides of Europe, and alongside Brits and Germans, are one of the three groups responsible for the modern world we live in today. There's literally no way or reason for them to identify as anything other than "French".
