I mean, maybe? But it also depends on location. I make $49,000 /y living here and I'm pretty damn comfortable (I'm an anthropological investigator). My rent is $1330, split between two people. Not bad at all.

I can earn about $68k doing the same thing, even same tier, in the bay area. Yet that's not going to be enough to afford any sort of housing over there.

It's 71 degrees in Irvine. There's going to be a week of rain at the beginning of Thursday so I'm looking forward to that, it makes my room look depressing with the grey light coming in.

I go to prisons around the state and write reports on the conditions within. I work for a non-profit law firm. They use some of this data as part of their legal dockets. I also meet up with some inmates to make sure they're getting proper medical treatment and make sure that the prison follows protocol.

Two of the colleges here partially fund us; a lot of this research is collected by them for educational purposes.

My job is niche as we're mainly hired by think tanks and lib arts colleges. It used to be that we'd go to prisons and talk to inmates in more detail about their conditions but paralegals/legal investigators have slowly taken over that role since it's very easy to integrate into their workload.

I have a master's in anthropology. It wasn't hard to get my job because I wanted to work in prison reform and based all of my college life around it. You really don't need to do this, however. You can get a 2yr paralegal certificate and work your way up different non-profits. I wanted the masters because I want to teach one day.

And yes I'm p comfy so far.
