nonononONO haHAHHAH DUDE look at the TOP OF HIS HEAD

HE

Shut it m8. Bloke's a legend.

>all Wikipedia pages on Indian history are ruled over by a couple of butthurt Hindu nationalists

I wonder if Steven is bilingual in Russian.

> How much money does Steven Pruitt make from his work? None.
> "The idea of making it all free fascinates me. My mother grew up in the Soviet Union, so I'm very conscious of what, what it can mean to make knowledge free, to make information free," he said.

> Steven Pruitt has been dedicating 3 hours a day to Wikipedia for 13 years. The second-place editor is roughly 900,000 edits behind him, so Steven's first place status seems safe, for now.
> How does Steven celebrate that victory? "Write another article, make another edit."

She emigrated in 1970s when only Jews were allowed to emigrate.

I wonder if she is disappointed in her virgin not rich Wikipedia son. She probably wanted Jewish grandbabies

Amateur

Swedish CHAD moving thru
>Sverker Johansson
>over 3 million articles
>average 10,000 articles a day
>doctor in particle physics - accomplished and sorted, not some nerd living at home
>single-handedly made Swedish Wikipedia the second largest Wikipedia even though we're a country of 9 million
>built a clever bot - EFFICIENCY MAXED
>motivated building the bot because "otherwise articles are mainly written by young, white, male nerds and reflect male interests" - moral chad, WOKE AF

y'all cant even compete

snälla säg att du driver

That's legitimately impressive

gee, I hope he has a white wif---

> Sverker Johansson is the creator of Lsjbot, which is responsible for 2.7 million articles as of July 2014. Lsjbot has created two thirds of the articles that appear in the Cebuano Wikipedia (the native language of Johansson's wife Smiley)
> The Cebuano language is spoken by about 25,000,000 people in the Philippines

fuck off, young white male nerd
go reflect your male interests somewhere else

Attached: närverklighetenslårtill.gif (450x310, 997K)

Don't Cebuano Wikipedia editors hate him because there's only a few of them and he created a fuck ton of work for them?

I don't know, the Cebuano wikipedia has been deleted. Now if you try to access Cebuano wiki, it goes back to Sverker Johansson. He probably angered the top admins of Wikipedia

meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_Cebuano_Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cebuano_Wikipedia

> The Cebuano Wikipedia mostly consists of bot-generated stubs, like the Volapuk wiki did 10 years ago. There are virtually no active users other than Lsj, his bot, a few vandals, and the MediaWiki message delivery bot. I propose that the bot-created articles be deleted, and that the rest of the wiki be moved to Incubator. KATMAKROFAN
> Let's not close a Wikipedia for 21 million people, with multiple users, because there's a few too many bot-created articles.--Prosfilaes
> Strong support for full retaliation against the people who have covered multiple language editions of Wikipedia with complete and utter rubbish. I would also argue in favour of full global ban of Lsjbot and nuking of all the ‘articles’ that were created by its owner. This is unprecedented abuse and I am frankly astonished that it took so long to start this closure request. There are no current options at the table other than to close the editions that are fully populated by bots (Cebuano and Waray Wikipedias) and move with the strictest sanctions possible against the language editions that have other content as well but are still densely populated by automatically created content (Swedish and Dutch Wikipedias). stjn

Fucking based

What kind of dumbass Wikipedia admin would make the decision to close down the entire Cebuano Wikipedia just because it had mostly bot ridden articles?

Who gives a shit? If it's readable by humans then it's usable and serves it's purpose

I'm reading some of pro-delete arguments

> These articles has put lots of pressure on the whole infrastructure of Wikimedia
> Tens of thousands of dollars (and probably way more) donor money is spent on this (in matter of server, bandwidth, database as it's putting pressure on other s3 wikis and it needs a dedicated shard, human software engineering time, etc.)

> I find the arguments for keeping this wiki extremely weak. You have 5,382,920 articles with 154 active users? And you find that acceptable? The amount of people who speak the language is not indicative of the status of a wiki or its need.

> This needs to happen as full retaliation against the people who have covered multiple language editions of Wikipedia with complete and utter rubbish

>the library has few visitors so there is no need, let's burn it down

> some authors have written bad books in multiple foreign languages, let's burn down all non-English libraries as revenge

That's only analogous if the library only has computer generated books after obscure plants and lakes.

But it didn't only have that Swedish guy's articles. One guy was begging for the mob to calm down

> Please do not close ceb.wiki as it will make my contributions as Joseph Walay Hanaw go to the drain too. Since 2010 I often do editing as anonymous both here in ceb.wiki and en.wiki but now as my work allows it finally I am openning a new account as Josefwintzent. The Cebuano speaking community are now organizing too to improve the contents of ceb.wiki so please do not close it yet.
> You and others like you could still contribute to a project in Wikimedia Incubator. However, there must be a demonstration that there is a healthy community of editors, that is willing to support the project in good faith

>this monk is authoring scribes too fast, someone arrest him!

Attached: Escribano.jpg (600x464, 115K)

Do you know for a fact that's what most of his bot written articles were about?

Surely the whole point of the AI was to find important articles which don't yet exist?

> this cost $10,000 to buy him all the paper! The library has only a $100,000,000 annual budget

The bot wasn't magically writing articles, it was scraping databases and generating articles based on the data in them. Lots of the databases were about random shit like frog species. Very few of them were quality or about anything interesting.

I'm not a bot expert, but I think he was just taking articles from big-language Wikipedia, running it through Google Translate to the monkey Asian language, and posting to Wikipedia. So it was really garbled version of normal articles.

i hate wikifags. every single one of them.
too much ego.

honestly, I'm not sure what the problem is. Ok, some articles are very small and about insects. So? There still exist human-written articles, that's what people search for. And if there is a frog lover in the Philippines, he can expand on the frog stub

Just because facts about frogs aren't useful to you doesn't mean they aren't to others.
How many times haven't you Wikipedia'd "random shit"?

Knowledge is knowledge. Recording and supplying knowledge is always a fruitful task.

This reminds me of a fun game. Think of any random thing which would have a Wikipedia article. Let’s say “banana”. Now leep clicking articles in Wikipedia until you get to banana

that's not what the bot does at all
look it up

You don't seem to understand the actual situation.

>average 10,000 articles a day
holy shit we need him. image he did something useful like 10000 shitposts on Jow Forums

Attached: 1477692948150[1].jpg (250x241, 11K)

literally what is the problem. The worst possible scenario is that there are lots of useless articles that no one looks at and it costs $1000 extra per year in server costs

holy shit, these people live in their own world. fighting wars, building coalitions, retaliating, losing battles, winning wars. that's life!

For example, I just did it in this order:

First article:
>Antlia (a constellation in the southern celestial hemisphere)
>Abbé Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille (a French astronomer)
>Cape Town
>South Africa
>Rainbow Nation
>rainbow flag
>yellow
>banana

If you want to host all that shit on a server and pay for it then go do it. Wikipedia has no obligation to. It also prevents an actual Cebuano wikipedia from growing because human written articles won't be able to be found among the massive spam of bullshit. There's just no point in Wikipedia hosting that.

nobody gives a shit either way.

uhhh no, sweetie, my donation pays for that server

and people don't randomly wander around wikipedias. No one actually clicks the random button. Normal humans will do searches on things, and they will find the articles they need. wala, done.

These two

I do. I’ve learned more from Wikipedia than college. I spend about 2 hours a day on it

Woopsie forgot pic

> I spend about 2 hours a day on it
going for the coveted admin job position?

If you want to host random information that is easily available elsewhere then rent a server. It doesn't matter how much you donate, Wikipedia has no obligation to host that autistic rubbish.

Nah, it’s just fun for me. I enjoy reading normal books and enjoy the “gathering knowledge” aspect from reading. It’s free and interesting. I learn something new every time I read

what was the last really interesting thing you read from Wiki

You are so thoughtful and caring for Wikipedia's precious funds and server costs :^)

You're all fucking stupid is impossible to
>average 10,000 articles a day
What does that mean? Average what? Cheetos dropped per semen cell dribbled?

Fucking retards. Quick math niggers. There are 86,400 seconds per day. This eastern Norwegian claims he... what? He makes or edits 10,000 articles a day (EXTREMELY round number). So that makes (86400/10000)*100 = 11.57%

That's 11.57% of his average day is apparently *not* shitposting on wikipedia. Throwing away traveling (walking to a from the fridge), searching your fridge, shitting, eating, pissing, grocery shopping, whatever you can think of. 11.57% of his day is spent shitposting.

That's 2.78 hours a day *not* shitposting on average. Impossible. And this nigger got 4 replies holy shit. This entire post is a mess 3/10 apply yourself.

What sort of bot? Is it sentence bot or article quotation bot? I'm tired of typing and translating manually.

>he donates to this professional beggar
absolutely disgusting
they already have more money that they will ever need.

Attached: th[1].jpg (2048x1534, 141K)

>yeah, let's burn all those gay books in latin, only autistic nerds look at them. it'll leave shelf space for the more popular literature like Twilight and 50 shades of gray

Attached: passive aggressive dog.jpg (800x1036, 156K)

That analogy makes no sense. Unless those books in latin are just databases of readily available information computer translated to latin and then printed out in which case, they are worthless.

Reading is fun but reading things out don't cut as "learning" since learning is an active process meant to be repeated

Normally, I’ll have 50+ windows of Wikipedia articles opened on my phone.
I usually just search “January 29” for example, read what happened today all throughout history, and see which interest me.

For example, today i found out:
>In Sikhism, the Five Ks (Punjabi: ਪੰਜ ਕਕਾਰ Pañj Kakār) are five items that Guru Gobind Singh commanded Khalsa Sikhs to wear at all times in 1699. They are: Kesh (uncut hair), Kangha (a wooden comb for the hair), Kara (an iron bracelet), Kachera (100% cotton tieable undergarment (not an elastic one)) and Kirpan (an iron dagger large enough to defend oneself).
Among other things.

Wiki also has Wikisource, which is a good tool for documents and books. You can find classical books and entire bibliographies of poetry for free

Attached: 0A0D3DBD-0AD0-4A8D-9AF2-E994F73C9FC6.png (750x1334, 1.32M)

he said he wrote a bot. what else do you need to know? why are you doing this stupid math if he is using a bot

>what is a bot
wsj.com/articles/for-this-author-10-000-wikipedia-articles-is-a-good-days-work-1405305001

(((They))) still locked the hitler related pages in english.

I'm joking, I've never donated a penny. They throw their money away with their endless conferences and Wikiparties for their employees too

I feel a bit bad for the guy in OP's picture. Look at him, he has spent 3 hours on Wikipedia, per day, every day, for 13 years, and he is not paid a dollar. He is fat, riddled with sedentary-related health problems, no gf

Meanwhile, look at these 300 people, being paid a high salary. They are happy, young, thin, healthy, and have families and children
wikimediafoundation.org/role/staff-contractors/

people who want knowledge in france read books

Yeah, that’s true. Sometimes, I get bored of normal fiction when it’s not offering me anything new tbat I didn’t already know. That’s why wikipedia is so “addicting” to me. I learn something new every time

It's Wikipedia's fucking job to host this content

We should not be worrying about how much it costs them, that's the ENTIRE POINT of the organization.

I won't field any more complaints of that nature in this thread

Relevant topics to continue this discussion -

Does the bot discourage native Cebuano editors from contributing?

Is there good potential for the articles that this bot has written for being further developed upon in the future? Are these topics actually of interest to Cebuano people?

Are the majority of Cebuano people bilingual? Is Cebuano the primary language of those people? How many have Internet access, and how will Internet develop there in the future? Is there a need, either a current or future one, for this wiki?

>It's Wikipedia's fucking job to host this content
It's not.

no, relevant topic is: why couldn't a literal particle physicist PhD genius Swedish scientist find a white wife?

roastie getting toasty in this thread lmao

Attached: konmari.jpg (819x1229, 76K)

maybe he's just not a racist, user

Attached: 1529257823534.png (258x281, 90K)

btw your way of calculation is kinda retarded, why the fuck are you calculating percentage? just divide 10k by 15 and that means 666.666 articles an hour or 11 articles a minute. in other words it would take him 6 seconds to write an article if he worked 15 hours a day. that's it. that's all you need to know. it is impossible. but you instead decided to calculate percentage. really? no offense but you are insane.

nobody cares

> never donated a penny
good for you.
>Look at him
That's sad. I know. I am not even sure what motivates them. Fame?

he could've had a white wife and a white son, even the least racist not-racist wants that

Attached: 1534730078405.jpg (1200x1645, 199K)

a mix of autism and poor upbringing. His parents should have forced him to do sports and socialize

btw, these 300 people are using him as their workhorse. They should at least use their wikiconnections to find him a gf, if they won't pay him

>His parents should have forced him to do sports and socialize
What's up with Americans and tabula rasa theory? It's not true. Some people are just born to be scribes and members of the priestly caste. It's no surprise they end up in weird places in modern society.

>imagine a Swede spamming Jow Forums with thousands of posts per day

look at this absolute newbie
you don't know any history about this place, do you?

hello paid Wikimedia staff member

nah, you described the average autist who shitposts on anime boards. there is something different there.

No, that's actually him.

I've donated around $1000 to Wikipedia in my life

Why wouldn't I when it's been so useful to me

I love Wikipedia and contribute often to it. I've written about 10 articles

Dunno
But 1/3 of articles are made by our colony (Jewsrael)

about what?

I don't want to be identified

They are about obscure topics that I found interesting

I got that reference. I must be an old fag.

kids these days don't even know the pre-captcha days

>pre-captcha
wtf?

The spamming had gotten so bad at some point, hiro introduced two captchas: a simple one (pre-captcha) and the real captcha afterwards.

oh ignorant younglings

there used to be an easy one, one word was the real word, the other one was nigger

Our brand of autism is very, very similar. High five.

why are you guys still here? aren't you bored of this place? same shit everyday.

I left it for many years. Then my gf dumped me. I'm back here while I recover from the hearbreak and depression

>hiro

back in the days, there was essentially no mod either, you only got banned for literally illegal things (or moot messing with you)

Attached: moot.jpg (671x982, 252K)

IIRC, a Swede named Kim Alsop or something had hidden a malicious code in images. If you saved certain images, it automatically posted an advertisement for his own site which was a competitor to Jow Forums

After a month or two, it got so bad and infected nearly every thread, so moot had to create captchas

where else am i supposed to go

reddit?

this is my only internet home. can't be homeless

moot got a gf, who wrote her PhD thesis on Jow Forums and moot. I wonder if they got married

you could make a Youtube channel and make millions of money from Patreon

Sad. But doesn't this place actually cause more depression?

How can an image contain a malicious code?

this place is depressing af and is full of racism and hateful retards. but anonymous chatting is addictive. it is a hellish combo.

no, they broke it off
he works on Google now

Attached: mootafter4chanpass.jpg (1920x1080, 762K)

kek these memes are so bad, looks like reddit

yes, if you let it go on too long. But in the meantime, you have to let the natural depression and grief ride out, and Jow Forums helps

But you use reddit spacing.
