Why do so many uni students has macs?
I literally had never seen anyone using a mac irl but in uni every runt has a mac book

they are simple for normie brains to comprehend
Programming from the electric jew forcing them to be brand conscious mutts
unironically because people who get things done want it to "just werk" and so they buy mac
Because if a girl comes to your dorm and you have a fucking HP or dell you aren't getting the pussy
I don't know but my professor told me to get one
Americans are truly mindless sheep
I remember 3 years ago when I first saw the right panel I thought it sounded so attractive that I put it in my Tinder profile (except the "Girlfriend" part). It worked out great.
But Dell makes high quality high end products. The XPS 15 line is top tier and I think anyone would have to appreciate 15 inches in the form factor with excellent colour accuracy and powerful internals.
I'm a normie, what actually makes Mac so different from Windows? Do they come with good video and music editing software as default hence the appeal to the creative community?
Since most actual work places use Microsoft Office as their work programmes doesn't that make Mac's versions of word and power point useless in the real world?
You put "appreciate the simple yet powerful OSX operating system" in your Tinder profile?
Why didn't Apple make a gaming Mac? It world eventually function as a console as they control everything on the system and they have people willing to pay thousands for anything they do
The left describes me far too accurate
It's good for software developing as it's UNiX-like OS. They also optimize it very well for hardware it runs on. Doesn't deny the fact it's heavily overpriced.
t. Employer provides macbook for work
I bet those gals that don't have one would make good waifus
I have a mac
Do they come with good video and music software?
>PS 15 line is top tier
Yeah because 60 degrees idle is exactly what I want from a "lap"top
With those 1800 dollars I could build a real PC that blows that shitty thing out of the water. Laptops aren't made for whatever is inside there, especially not the i9 processor they tried to cram into their top model.
And if you really are the 1% of the people that need to edit 4k video in Svalbard, then you should have an external GPU with a portable ultrabook, not an XPS 15 brick.
because they're a trendy brand, you can buy an asus which has the exact same case but a different colour and no apple logo for half the price of a macbook but then nobody would know you have a macbook
Not in my uni. It's an informatics and math degree, though.
Despite of what people say, macs are actually good if you have a shitton of money and you need a laptop for work. If you have so much money you don't care about spending $3k on a laptop for work, then mac is your go-to device. It's basically a shrunk down linux with some extra app support thanks to the hipsters, but it doesn't break every time you upgrade it (like your almighty $2.5k Dell does), it doesn't require any setup (unlike your almighty $2.5k Dell), and it has a pretty long lasting warranty (unlike your $2.5k Dell the moment you uninstall the stock windows).
However if you don't swim in money and you still get a laptop like that, you're a fucking retard not even worth a death wish, because it's too easy of an exit for you.
>In University of Tokyo, the authority of Univ told us to buy Macbook because the system of Univ is made up of Mac
I'm not sure but if I see a designer or music artist it's pretty much mandatory for them to have Mac, but I never used it from this perspective
No, you still have to buy them. A decade ago mac had better music and video software but now you have the same quality on both mac and windows.
Here they told us to install linux.
Their "design" computers don't even have a GPU so what do you expect from those jews
Thanks, I always see Macs being used by Musicians and video editors and assumed they must have some notifiable lead over regular PCs. Including loads of cool software as standard would be a good way to justify the high price too.
No those people actually don't know shit about computers and since they saw someone from their field using one they bought one too.
>Linux
so...you study some programming or your study subject needs calculating with some special software?
macs aren't even that expensive, hilarious how the rest of the world sees apple as some luxury brand. it's the mcdonalds of hardware, simple and ubiquitous
Programming and math. But all the computers in the university are linux and it's mainly a medic university the best medic university in France.
Same I don’t think I have seen any white girl in my uni using anything other than a Mac
You'd have to buy like 3 expensive adapters to connect a decent rig
>the best medic university in France.
>the best medic university
That's why you French are often said to be pedantic and arrogant
I ENVY YOUUUUUUUU
brand power
during my undergrad (chemistry) owning a mac was a fairly significant detriment as software like ACD labs and such were not available for mac OS so everyone that used one had to do lab work in the common computer lab which was always very busy and fairly loud.
I personally own a thinkpad t580 and probably will never own another laptop outside of the thinkpad line because of my experience with them but I think the hate that apple products get is largely unwarranted. Yes they are tremendously overpriced and their phones are literally mid tier but there is nothing wrong with having a preference in OS
It's the best in France, not at all the best in the world. And I'm not there to be a medic, it's just a correct university for programming.
Also since you're apparently studying french, you probably can find a way to come study here for at least a year and you'll be just like us.
well, my subject is humanity, especially sociology, so even if I were to have an opportunity to go and study in France, the univ where I might go would be Grands-écoles or faculties of humanity...
>there is nothing wrong with having a preference in OS
The problem is why people are choosing mac over everything else.
For a STEM student windows is an obvious choice
look at that Thinkpad Chad
my uni is only 50% mac, the other 50% is thinkpads, surfaces and chromebooks
however Mac os has also some weak points, like its incompatibility with Steam
I wouldnt call them a luxury brand but there is no getting around the premium they put on their brand
apple.com
the cheapest macbook pro you can get is $1,300 for the newest model and that comes with a 13 inch screen, 2.3 gHz i5 processor, a $55 videocard, and a pathetic 128 GB SSD. You can literally get a better laptop for less than half the price
>surfaces
Really? Do they still produce them?
Mac can run MSOffice just an extra charge for the iMongs
What about those girls.
I don't know shit about sociology and can't recommend you a french uni but you can look here.
capital.fr
The Grandes Ecoles can be very good, I don't see your problem unless you really want to go to Paris V for some reason.
merci mon ami français intellectuel.
the most surefire way you can use to pick out the future millionaires is to look at the right left corner of their laptop

What do you mean still? They're more popular than ever.
>my twitter loads 1 second faster than yours
who cares
Just never seen one after launch, I thought they failed miserably
ps. Well, I actually checked yandex.market, yeah, it's surprisingly popular
could you share some of the syllabus and textbook titles? I'm trying to be more competent than my fellow mates and my current place feels like I'm a whale in a goldfish bowl it's frustrating.
for the prices that they are asking for flagship phones it absolutely matters. If I spend literally $1,070 after tax for a phone that only comes with a charger and the poorfag earbuds (those white wireless ones are literally $160) it should absolutely outperform a $400 phone. There is just no excuse
why
Well I'm not actually there anymore as I said, the uni was good if you wanted to be a medic but not for programming. I'm in a hiatus right now where I work to have a bit of money before continuing.
at least until the latest itteration of the mac book i used it (chemical engineer) and everyone i worked with did as well
>good OS
>good trackpad
>native *nix
>native terminal
>homebrew is nice
>MacPorts is nice
basically like a linux machine without having linux bullshit. good build quality. long battery life. newest generations of MPB dissapoint hard though and I'm at a loss for what to replace mine with. holding onto mine from 2015 for dear life but even it started the downward trend of shitty production quality
anyway, long and short of it. the MPB is popular among engineers and scientists because its a no-fuss *nix system with a built in terminal and good build quality
Honestly I'm a lifelong PC user and switched to a macbook 1 and a half years ago. I can honestly say I probably won't go back to PC unless it's for gaming(I have an old desktop with decent spec for it).
The macbook is just so much more comfortable physically to use(the touchpad, keyboard etc.). The software is much more stable and has much better performance than any windows PC i have used.
Also I'm a dev and it provides the advantage of being a UNIX system plus letting me develop IOS apps(xCode is only on Mac)
i do a lot of programming work as well, the full suite of JetBrains IDEs are really nice on OSX I find. And I've yet to find a trackpad that comes close to the MPBs on a laptop and the keybaord is very comfortable. I cant say I agree with build stability though the last 3-5 years i've had more issues with OSX than I had in 10 years prior. Quality has really dropped since cook took over
weren't the govt gives you money while you're studying?
Not enough, my parents are just too rich so I ahve to work.
>Who cares if my phone has a smaller screen and inferior hardware to much cheaper phones
Peak American
>smaller screen
I miss the 4" phones. the trend of monster phones is disheartening.
???
that is a conflicting account...which one is it?
I miss flip phones. I don't need anything else.
And all the good brands that were making those stopped.
too hard to text on t9 and i like texting
Apple have been invested in the educational market from earliest times. You didn't know that? They first bribed the California state legislature into accepting Apple IIs in the state school system.
There's a class of people in France who are just too rich to have the benefits of the State but not rich enough to have the easy life.
Never had problem with it. If the phone is good, it's easy to press rapidly the buttons.
sounds like a hell limbo to me because it's so relatable.
Well we still have free healthcare and everything so I don't really complain.
>free
...
>Stomp Stomp Stomp
>hear that?
>something's coming
I want a lenovo x1 carbon.
>Well we still have free healthcare
...for refugees.
Same reason why they buy TI "calculators"
>macs aren't expensive
it's 2500 for a macbook pro while competitors with equal or better hardware are 500 cheaper, or more. How the fuck is it not expensive. You realize that's an entire month's paycheck for a lot of people not only in europe but also here, nevermind the third world where it's multiple months paycheck for a laptop that becomes obsolete by the time you can repay it in brazil.
Lenovos are shit because they only cater to database engineers or other autistc professions. And those people don't even buy x series, they go for old T series or something, since they can just buy those for 300 bucks and upgrade them. The x1 carbon has an inferior screen and performance to the Xps15 which makes it so you're essentially only buying it for the keyboard.
> not using a pen and paper
I never understood this
MPB is only around 1600 at least when I bought mine. at the time there wasnt really a good competitor that offered what the mac did. now the landscape has changed but 5-7 years ago there wasnt good competition in the laptop market for the things i needed
He probably said he prefers Cougar
>lenovo
>chinkpad
>good
I have my MBP bootcamped to run Windows 10 for certain OS specific software. Windows updates piss me off to no end. I’d never buy a PC laptop because they are so poorly built. My 2010 MBP is literally still running and my 2015 has no issues whatsoever. Neither computer has become noticeably slower with age.
pirate W10 LTSB
Yep now you have other laptops that can compete with it like the surface which is a couple hundred cheaper and nicer in my opinion, and still with a 3:2 aspect
and then you have the new Huawei computers which are better and 1,000 cheaper. I think Huawei is going to absolutely crush Apple and Microsoft by the end of 2020. The only thing those companies will be able to do is try to convince people not to buy asian products, but it's impossible to pass up on Huaweis better screen, batter, and most likely performance vs price.
>I’d never buy a PC laptop because they are so poorly built.
That's why you buy a thinkpad.
ubuntu on HP laptop here
i'm also a luddite-ass boomer; i can't use tech for shit. i just need the text editor, the video player, the internet and minesweeper. wanted ubuntu because i loathe microdick and apple
Based.
I’m at an international private school (no flex just context) and like half my school has the MacPro/iPhone combo, maybe a quarter is Windows/iPhone, and the rest Windows/Android.
>text editor
don't say you use gedit, vim or nano
You're right, emacs is better.
libre office
the devil you know and all that
>university
>mac
Confusing. Ain't Microsoft office and CAD-things the primary stuff for school people?
t. blue collar who haven't seen apple computer in his life
imagine paying $2000+ for a laptop that you'll only use to type essays and browse social media with. i wish i had parents that would spoil me like that.
>only use to type essays
Do you have any idea how much work/research is required to write an essay?
>american and their world
it is expensive since it's the only way my CSP won't hang because I draw lewds dick girls and furries for food.
>even with that earnings barely makes the ends meet
>www.wikipedia.org
A macbook is going to retain its value better than a windows laptop. In fact, the latter is literally worthless once it’s used.
Furthermore, at least here, people do not write essays in uni but papers, which require exponentially more effort, especially if you are doing it in APA format.
In my opinion, only postgraduate papers require substantial effort. Undergraduate papers are not that much harder than that of a high school paper.
because most windows laptops are shit
I think I should buy one
(Not in uni)
