Why is the southern part of most countries always objectively inferior to the northern part?

It's a bit different in Canada because our north is pretty much uninhabitable. The way it works here is that western Canada is best and things get progressively worse as you go eastward.

not true for south asia in general. Sri lanka and maldives are doing well. While, nepal and afghanistan are shitholes.

I think that is the case for warmer countries, because in these the south is usually better for agriculture so their economy relies more heavily on it than the north, where most factories and businesses are located. However, in colder countries the south is more arable and also the north has less livable conditions, so the population concentrates in the south.

Southern Vietnam has much lower crime and poverty than the north.
