someone once told me that when there's a recession, people sell off their stocks with increases the demand for the dollar, but that in turn decreases demand for gold. is that true?

prasx is a mutual fund comprised completely of puts and shorts. Its performance sucks during bull markets but it if awesome in bear markets. It will go down in the initial stages of a recession/depression but it will recover like a beast first.

reason being is that currencies are pretty much "made up value" and when there is a economic crisis, the currency automatically loses it's value aswell, people lose trust in it
but gold is a value that was is limited by mother earth, there is only a set amount of gold in the world that cannot ever increase... gold has real value.. in a recession, you will usually see gold prices going up (you can for example dodge overinflation/deflation with gold)
check charts for economic downtimes (for example S&P500) and compare how gold reacted to it at the same time, most of the time it goes up in value.. worst case it will keep somewhat steady
