Each district in the country has its own school board which establishes its own regulations and rules, so the further South you go into Bible Belt territory the more likely you are to get shit like this in public schools.

Some schools do, yes, though they also teach evolution and say it's a matter of opinion. The schools that teach intelligent design are mostly in the South and Southwest.
