Poilu, the diary of Louis barthas

No.
I mean it's fine. The prose is ok and all. But consider that what may have seemed revolutionary in the late 1800's won't faze you now.

This and only this. Not vodkanigger writing about yellow snow can hold a candle to this.

Kafka "The Trial", "The Castle".

>Death of Ivan Ilyich is a good short story
I can't call any of Tolstoy's work "depressing". He is very inspiring.

An artist of the floating world, Never let me go and The remains of the day, all by Kazuo Ishiguro, 1984 by George Orwell, Brave new world by Aldous Huxley, All quiet on the western front by Erich Maria Remarque. All of those are books about different things, but all are sad in some way.

More blackpilled books

Death of Ivan Ilyich is really sad. The Metamorphosis by Kafka is depressing too.

>1984 by George Orwell
Can confirm. This one was very depressing.

Be careful though, it's also really funny at times

>Pop culture fucked up the whole uniqueness of Frankenstein
Indeed, but Frankenstein by Junji It and Frankenstein Alive, Alive are great. Frankenstein Alive, Alive is more depressing than the original book.

Do you know if the English translation is any good or is there too much lost going from French to English?

I have no mouth and I must scream

The things they carried. By tim O'Brien. Amazing work of fiction about a platoon in Vietnam. Emotional.

Describes life during and after combat. As well as PTSD and memories. Graphic descriptions as well of actions and attitudes. As well as gore

I've only read the English translation so idk but i loved it anyway

The Trial and The Metamorphosis, both by Kafka.

Picked up then, thanks for the recommendation

Actually I forgot to ask, which translation did you read, since there are apparently two, Ralph Manheim or John H.P. Marks?
