Study Japanese or Mandarin at university?

Gotta pick one to do four papers in. Half of my conjoint is business which I think Mandarin would be nice for but most Chinese businessmen have already been taught English from a young age to get a headstart. More interested in Japan than China and wouldn't mind doing international stuff there but Chinese would be more fun day to day since there are lots of Chinese here.

If you are interested in anime, Japanese. If you are interested in a skill, Chinese. However, beware that the Chinese are the absolute worst people to deal with in the world.
t. chink

I read some manga but I don't watch anime, although I do play some Japanese games too. It's more that if I had to live and or work in another country then Japan would probably be in my top 3.

Most people say living/working in Japan is a meme but I've been to Japan three times and all the Japanese people I see are very happy.

I've heard lots of bad stuff about working but I would probably only ever work there for the international branch of a company or something so not where a lot of the stories come from.

Both is too hard and not worth it if you're not planning to make use of it desu
Japanese English is pretty bad (but kind of cute when a cute Japanese girl said it)but I'd say it's just a bit worse than bad Chinese English so in terms of that, you should learn Japanese
However, it's also true that if you can't speak Chinese you'll be chinked very, very hard sometimes so just learn Chinese for it or just Japanese for the memes and animes and shit

>learning language at university
You learn STEM stuff at uni then learn language while you work in a foreign country

It's true that they all learn English in China and if they're in business they'll probably have decent English. Anyone here looking to hire a Chinese speaker wants a fluent speaker and there's no shortage of chinks to fill that role so unless you master it it will be useless.

Do you know if the average businessman speaks English?
I'm learning economics and finance on the other half of my conjoint. It's not STEM but I much prefer it.
That's a good point.

>Do you know if the average businessman speaks English?
You learn Chinese so that you can find if they are swindling. Actually, because Chinese 'dialects' are so different (I'd say Mandarin and Cantonese are as different as English and German) and businessmen kinda talk in their dialects to hide what they are talking sometimes, even Chinese people hire interpretors for their 'dialects'.

You'd really have to master Chinese to make the skill useful for business

That being said having even intermediate chinese can be a big advantage if you do go to China or Taiwan

I hate chinks as much as the next guy, but that pic is fucking retarded. First of all, there's no such thing as "being forced by your boss to relocate to China". If you're such a spineless beta faggot that you actually let Mr. Noseberg relocate you against your will, then you deserve everything bad that might happen to you afterwards. Second, learning any language for "business reasons" is so far gone down the road of raging fucking faggotry that you might as well prophylactically diagnose yourself with AIDS. Third, doing business in any 3rd world shithole is shit-tier and requires being more of a jew than whoever you're dealing with. The guy in that pic was probably a complete softie faggot (especially seeing as he couldn't even stand up to Mr. Noseberg) who would've ended up being literally shanked half of the world's countries. Plenty of people have managed to make a nice dime for themselves in Chinkistan (Chinks and Westerners alike), so why you cling religiously to that fucking pic is frankly beyond me. Finally, the pic is statistically unlikely. It's very rare for people to be able to learn a difficult language like Mandarin to the level of business fluency as an adult. And even if they did, companies always prefer just sending some chink diaspora instead. Of course the story is not outright impossible, but definitely unlikely.

What the fuck is up with the "Chinese speak English so it's useless" meme. No they fucking don't.
The average Chinese dude is already good if he can speak and write his own language properly. And the rich Chinese kids who have opportunities to have good teachers and go abroad are mostly fucking lazy and stay between each others speaking Chinese all the time. Been with 50 of these rich fuckers during 4 months and they don't speak a word of English, you can be sure the middle class dude is 10 time worst.

why do you refer to yourself as a chink?

I can guarantee you most Chinese speak English, it's just that they don't want you to know that they speak English

I actually regret picking Mandarin, do Japanese.

>most Chinese speak English
In the US, yes.

I was in Shenzhen (right next to Hong Kong) 10 years ago and not a single person there knew English (It was literally the only place where taxi drivers didn't know very simple English words like 'yes', 'no', or 'one')

You must have met Chinese who don't really study at all

Study Cantonese.

You can pick Chinese first then learn Japanese.

If you can speak English/Japanese/Mandarin...

You can get super easy life in Japan.

Buiseness with chinese is hell. Signing a contract means nothing for them. They sign contracts 30 minutes after you have met the first time and don't discuss any details. After signing it turns out that they don't have materials or something but when they signed they said that everything is ok.
Japanese on the other hand are very responsible in buiseness. They always discuss all details and make sure that everything is 100% ok before signing the contract. Look up 根回し

No I had to do work projects with them and their they couldn't make a single sentence of English apart from 3 of them how of 50. Their Korean is a bit better obviously cause it's similar but even then their accent was atrocious. It's literally a meme that Chinese students don't speak English.

Because you meet the Chinese who get to enter American universities, the best English speakers. It's not representative 99% of them suck. Mines all study in Seoul because they couldn't get to American schools.

Mandarin is an artaficial language created by the mao fucks, so wouldnt reccomend

I can speak russian, english and japanese.
How do i get easy life in Japan? I'm also ikemen by japanese standards and I have been even offered to star as a model for some japanese journal. Unfortunately I had not time because I had a flight on the other day.

learn chink language
chinks are the future

go to a chink subreddit and never come back

ching chong ping pong ling xing long?

Truth. I was studying with chinese guy in Japan. He spoke good japanese and almost fluent english (he's from Shanghai), but everytime I offered him to have dinner together he was saying that he have already eaten. After that he goes and has dinner with other Chinese

My cousin can speak English/Mandarin and Japanese and become tour conductor.

>go to airport with car and pick up foreign tourists.
>to guide Japan tourist place.
>no overwork
>got 40-50万円(4,000$ /month)

>russian

hmmm....maybe you can get a model job.but model is not good at salary.

male or female cousin? If female, can you give me her info so I can book a tour?

Chinese cling to their own kind. Kinda same for Koreans but Chinese even more

male cousin lel

also my cousin living in countryside of Japan and not even mainland of Japan.

tour conductor company is everywhere in japan.you can hire them anytime.

He is half korean btw

>against his will
He could probably hide his Mandarin skill if he really wanted to, but since he already invested years learning Mandarin and hiding the skill would make him earn less salary than what he can earn now, he have probably made some intentional decision against doing so, most likely because he treated his time spent to learn Mandarin as some form of sunken investment and try to get something back from it.
>Learning language for business reasons is so far gone down the road of faggotry
Most people around the world learn English for this very reason.
>In any 3rd world shithole
Thing is China is now portraying itself as a superpower and most people don't realize it's still underdeveloped in many aspects. It would be the fault of those who didn't do enough researches before opting to invest their time and money into any China-related things but these misconceptions are so common that they need to be spelled out

Only the standard dialect can be described as such and even that was from RoC era

How's Macao?

Can someone tell me if this image is true? I am just beginning the study of the 540 radicals and if this is true, I'll learn the 120 pictographical and indicative ones and then the 390 other ones before moving on to other combinations.

Not much big business opportunity other than casino..

a bit rare desu

>average businessman in any east Asian cunt
>able to speak English
What even made you think it's like that
It's the case for large companies that constantly trades or made deal with English speaking cunts though, you'd still need some Japanese/Chinese to be trusted as a normal dealer other than some foreigners that's just communicating for some short term business

If you're doing business what purpose would have to speak with the illiterate peasants? The ones you will be dealing with are the ones that will have studied overseas and are at least capable of a conversation

Gotta play ping pong

By your standards it's useless to learn any language at all then.
It's not just peasants it's about 90% of the population but you don"t want to accept it for some reasons.

Japanese is about saying English words in a retarded way, Chinese is way more useful overall. Even Korean.

Why not? I don't find it offensive

As I said, for business. Unless you actually master the language then no, there will always be someone who speaks English better than you can their language willing to work for half the price. If you have other reasons to learn it like literature, living there or just plain interest then sure go and learn it, but unless you're actually going to put in the years of effort it would require you to compete with a native speaker who's learnt English it won't be useful for business.

False flagger who read that stupid screencap about the jewish penny pinching firm falling for steel scams over and over

That being said if you do want to live over there it is very useful. I've spent lots of time in Taiwan and the number of people who actually understand and can use English are in short supply - the ones who reached that level moved overseas. If you're a native English speaker with a good grasp of Mandarin and an in demand skill such as Engineering there are good opportunities available for you. The downside is you have to live there.

Calm down Zhang.

bump desu

You should appeal to them for yourself at Narita.

Learn Chinese if for business.Learn Japanese if you can't deal with unreasonable assholes.
