Humans, like most big apes, are social animals. 99% of our time as species we have lived in small family groups and, as a social animal, our survival depended on the work of others.
Having homosexuals in your tribe was benefical because gay men can help by hunting and bringing food to home, and lesbian women can help by raising children (specially if they're orphans).
