To an extent I can understand the rationale. Most of the time those sorts are moderately successful and participate in various deaf groups, so to them it's neither a major impediment on their lives and a form of community.

Using cochlear implants or other cures is an implicit admission that their condition is actually a negative instead of an alternative, and in the long term there's also the fear that their rather fragile support system - sign language training, government subsidies in certain states, protective legislation, etc. - is contingent on deaf people being a significant minority. Effectively, the idea that if their population reduced enough their quality of life might drop is a legitimate threat in their eyes. So they want to let their kids be deaf because they don't view it as a problem needing to be solved with any form of 'cure', and because it's a connection between them and their children that makes them a part of their community. This is on top of the fact cochlear implants are imperfect and only offer a limited sense of hearing which makes the expenses, risks, and other factors weigh heavier against it in their mind.

I disagree with them completely. I think all children who can receive any sort of aid for their disabilities should be entitled to it, and that in the long run they are making a choice for their kids that they shouldn't, but I can understand their position and don't really hate them for it even if I view it as morally wrong.

I mean at least they're not mutilating their kids genitals through circumcision or something, right? You can nearly always get an implant or hearing aid later, you can't regrow your foreskin.
