I speak Spanish pretty well (I lived in Spain for two years) but it felt exhausting having to constantly exert more effort interacting with people in your second language. Also, it bothered me whenever I was out in public and couldn't understand what people were saying as they passed by.

Side note: It's harder for English speakers to learn other languages because people always want to practice their English with you.

not really, being native in the lingua franca is invaluable
sure, most people can put down they are fluent English speakers, but it will never be the same/to the standard of a native. even my foreign uni freinds who she grown up in international schools learning English from nursery right up until high school, who grew up watching English language TV shows, who lived here for the best part of a decade etc still don't have that extra bit that a native has, they still make basic mistakes but no one wants to be rude and correct them, they still don't think entirely unconsciously and struggle to decipher expressions/dialects/accents, they still make tons of mistakes when they write essays etc. That's not to say they aren't intelligent or have near perfect english, they do, they just aren't natives.
