I think it's because everyone is too busy doing their own things to actually care and think for themselves. So they let others think for them and don't care much whether it's true or not as long as it feels about right.

I love Japanese traditional architecture, shoin zukuri looks infinitely more pleasant than anything from here. In general Japanese aesthetics resonate well with me. The traditional gardens from the same style are also very beautiful. And so are most of shrines, especially since they're so often surrounded by nature. I also like the look of items covered in lacquer (dunno what's the English name of that, I mean the sap used in maki-e, kamakurabori, togidashi and so on).
It seems I generally enjoy the Japanese aesthetics visually, I do have trouble understanding the traditional music and nō theatre so far though. Perhaps I will learn to appreciate it as I'm exposed to it more and more.
