On top of that, a lot of people don't actually eat properly or have other deficiency issues, so vitamins supplements help. I've been researching the scientific evidence on supplements for a long time, and I've taken pretty much everything. Here's my take on the issue.
1) If you don't have evidence (bloodwork results) that you have a deficiency, don't even bother taking supplements.
2) If you do have evidence, take a supplement, but also try to figure out what is causing the deficiency.
3) Stuff like Phenibut (which is marketed as a supplement) may work wonders, but that stuff is barely legal. I wouldn't even call it a supplement.
3) Magnesium is the only supplement worthwhile taking since magnesium deficiency is very common in the US. But you might as well eat some cereal with added vitamins. It's the same as taking a supplement.
4) Iron deficiency is very common among women and children. But then, again, why would you bother taking a pill that gives you diarrhea? Just eat some red meat. If that doesn't work, there's plenty of Iron added to most cereal brands in the US.
5) Shit like copper can be dangerous if you eat vegetables regularly. Don't take it. Just eat some kale or spinach.
6) If you're dark skinned living in high latitudes you might want to take Vitamin D.
7) Overall, eat your fucking veggies. Eat at least or a plate of salad a day and you won't need any supplement. Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower... the more vegetables, the better. If you have trouble digesting it, you can boil or steam it. Add some ground black pepper to everything you eat. Black pepper helps your body transport the food's nutrients.
That's pretty much it. Don't waste your money on multivitamin supplements.
