I actually own this book and it's quite stupid and poorly-argued. That said, there is a kernel of truth to the idea that migrants from London and East Anglia formed the nucleus of the New England elite. The South-East of England has always been wealthier, better educated and entrepreneurial-minded. It was the case even during the English Civil War, where bar a few exceptions the most radical of dissidents were drawn overwhelmingly from the burgher classes across London and East Anglia.
The North was the heart of British industry at that time you fucking fairy.
