Last time, apart from the API stuff it was people who fell victim to phishing scams. Scammers kept people's login credentials and eventually used them all at the same time to market sell everyone's shit and market buy VIA. If I had to bet it's probably the same thing, and if so there's not much that Binance can do apart from forcing users to use 2FA instead of just having it as an option.

AFAIK with VIA the situation was resolved quickly and fairly enough for the people who were affected. Hopefully things will end well this time too.

Thinking back, it might not be true that there's nothing they can do to prevent it, but to do so they would need to refuse or delay all transactions that their system flag as suspicious, which might anger more people who miss trades because of it than anything.

I had $178k in my account. It's literally everything I have save for $1200 in my checking account. I was afraid I'd lose or damage a hardware wallet so it seemed safer to have it on a place of high security that gets backed up. I may have fucked up, lads.

Source? I would be really surprised if Binance doesn't have any safeguards for withdrawals. Accepting any trades is ok for them, but when it's time to cash out, I expect them to delay transactions and freeze accounts a lot quicker if their system detects anything even slightly suspicious since in that case they're the ones who stand to lose money.

Market buying up to 96 BTC per 1 SYS is not normal behavior. Could be a fat finger mistake by some whale, but it seems unlikely.

There are a lot of other explanations for this than Binance being hacked though. If Binance really had been hacked, I doubt it would have played out this way. I'm still thinking it was a bunch of people who got phished or something like that.

When you have this much it’s unironically better to spread it out. Some on hardware wallets, other stacks distributed across exchanges.

If 1 exchange goes done you’re still good. If you get robbed or someone hacks your exodus wallet, you’re still good. If someone steals your ledger, you’re still good. Etc.

The receiving wallet recorded just 7 transactions though. The buy side might have been a bunch of little guys (stolen API keys), but the sell side that raked in the BTC was concentrated in at most 7 accounts, each which made 100s of BTC off the trade. Should still have been enough to trigger some kind of temporary account hold.
