Learning a language.

Step 1 - Recognition
make an effort to find online the top (at least) 500 most common words of that particular language, go to linguee.com, take the phrases and put both front (phrase in the language you're learning) and back (translation) into anki and do anki every single day.

Step 2 - Familiarization
Search for text with audio (simple text like tales for kids), try to read it first and then read it while you're listening. Do it over and over again, like 50 times, with the same text 3 days in a row.

Step 3 - Immersion
Look for everything about the culture of those countries where the language is spoken. Find TV shows and watch it with subtitles (the subs must be in that particular language, not in your mother tong. A research made by a Spanish university has shown that that's the best way to learn)

Pick books and read a lot

Step 4 - Maintenance
If you stumble upon a word, a term or idiom you don't know like 3 times, pick it go to linguee.com and then anki.

That's how I do and it's working I guess.

hey don't get me wrong i like the swedish language, and i think it's cool that arabic and semitic languages are beginning to enter the country through immigration. it'll be cool to see what words get adopted into swedish lexicon in the coming generations.

language has always changed with the movement of people and i can't wait to see what swedish becomes

maybe enough arabic, persian, and somali will enter the swedish lexicon that it will become incomprehensible to norwegian speakers! maybe even in our lifetime
