Compared to other soviet countries, Hungarian human rights record was relatively clear and the people enjoyed many amenities and were unkown to chronic shortages and long queues. Lot of alternative culture was tolerated to a degree, best described by Kádár's slogan "Who is not against us, is with us".

By isolating Eastern Europe, Yugoslavia, China and Latin America economically, Communism kept billions of cheap labor and goods out of the West.

Competition between the two systems (Capitalism vs Communism) meant that the elites in capitalist countries had to prove to their population that they’re better off than under Communism. This insured accessible education and housing, stable wage growth, lots of benefits and appeasement for simple workers.

After the Soviet Union was dismantled, neoliberal capitalism was let loose. Capital became global and now countries have to compete for it by lowering wages and labor standards.

Globalism is the direct result of the collapse of Communism. Notice how globalization basically began as soon as the Iron Curtail fell. The elites no longer had to pretend they cared about the will of the population, since the sole competitor to global dominance was defeated.
