Depends on where in Poland you go.
Some parts are fantastic with great people. The region around Krakow and Katowicy and north up from there is great. B
But the more east/north-east from that you get the more it becomes crypto-russia, filled with people who somehow manage to be absdurdly spineless but also incredibly entitled shits at the same time.

Large parts of Lithuania (but also Belarus and Ukraine) were in Poland before WW2. The grannies go to the place of their birth.

As to Poles being religious freaks, that's mostly a generational thing. According to Pew Research, we have the largest gap in religiosity between the youth and old in the whole fucking world.

To be honest, our spelling is perhaps the most conservative in the region. Others were writing the same way until great reforms of 19th century. We simply decided not to bow to stupid trends.
