everyone knows them

National icons

Literally who? I'm sorry, it seems really niche in France, never seen them

Pretty well-known (I think?)

we used to read the french comics in elementary school as a part of teaching kids french
otherwise they are basically nonexistent here

Pretty popular I'd say. We had like 4 albums. I can't remember how many live action movies were released here, but I think I watched at least 2 as a child

It's kinda sad how the quaity fell after the original writer died. Remember that newer one that had an army of (American comic allegory) Supermen against an evil japanese style alien, "Nagma"?

Everyone knows them. Also 100% of fat people here have been called "Obelix" in their lifetime.

more people know about tin-tin that asterix and obelix. And even then tin-tin is rare. The smurfs are everywhere, but no one knows they're franco-belgian.

>not in highschool economy class
Shit education tbqh

They’re practically nonexistent here too
A shame really, they’re very entertaining

Aliens ?
In Asterix ?

Yeah he's not lying

The Twelve Tasks of Asterix is the most popular film of theirs, especially the permit document skit for obvious reasons

Quite popular. In animated series/movies, the Romans speak with a Roman dialect/accent.

Literally who?

They are not very popular, the only comic characters people know here are Mafalda, Charlie Brown and Condorito

Which album ?
I guess it's Uderzo who fucked up by writing the scenario himself

it's some weird male genderbent version of those 2 popular characters

watched that like last week once again after so many years.

fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_ciel_lui_tombe_sur_la_tête

I first learned about Asterix via a book written in Hessian owned by my high school German teacher

Ye

Je vais lire le pdf ça m'a l'air épique quand même

I really, really don't know what I think of this image

Everybody knows Asterix y Obelix, the comics and cartoon movies, shame they had to make those shitty live action movies, the only good thing about them is Gerard Depardieu being the living image of Obelix.

The earlier Uderzo-only ones were decent, I think. It all really went to shit at the "La Rose et le Glaive" one.

Very. I read them a lot as a kid.

Les néo Astérix m'ont toujours repoussé, il y a quelque chose de malsain, un malaise simplement en voyant leurs couvertures.

that album is by far the most hated of the whole series, it has been butchered so hard by the fans and critics it eventually convinced Uderzo to let it go and pick new authors to keep the series going, something he always refused to do until then.

Most people know them pretty much.

I don't get how nobody stopped the Granpa, this was 2005.

Very popular, most kids know it. Kino.

Man, i loved these comics as a kid.
Good times.

He's a stuborn old guy with excessive pride and greed, he didn't want to let other people doing anything with his creation. I remember interviews where he said the series will end with his death. I don't really know what made him change his mind. Money reasons, probably.

All the series where Goscinny wrote the story peaked when he was the one in charge (Astérix, Lucky Luke, Iznogoud...)

No, Epidemais is the ancestor of Maghrebians. Asterix and Obelix met him in current Tunisia in Asterix and the Surprise of Ceasar.

>Goscinny
Wait they were written by a pole?

>tfw nothing in real life will ever taste as good as what you imagined the whole wild boar roasted over the campfire tasted like

He is Hungarian

He is Sildavian.

This is why we need copyright.

Everyone knows them. However, due to the lack of any real comics culture whatsoever, it's because of the movies and not so much the comics themselves.

this
or when they were eating at that chefs place and devoured everything

french cartoons were the best

Best comics I know, I have all of them and read them all the time as a child. Unfortunately the quality dropped after Goscinny died, but the old ones are still unrivalled.

born in France from an Ukraino-Polish family that emigrated for reasons
why the fuck everybody wants to come here ffs?

I stopped reading them after Asterix and Obelix All at Sea

t. boomer

Also fuck Uderzo

this

it says he's of polish decsent on wiki, also gościnny is a polish word

The best food is depicted in Astérix chez les Belges.

Fairly popular, especially among older people.

Phoenicians were maritime traders, they were found anywhere around the mediterranean.

What the fugg

please don't ask

Among people 25 or older: Moderatelly popular
Among zoomers: no one know who it is

I think everyone knows OF them, probably from the live-action movies. Western comic books were forbidden during communism and Asterix came here in the early 90s when I was a kid.

Attached: AS-Asterix-21.jpg (1500x1029, 859K)

What did you think of Asterix chez les Goths ?

OK, but do you also know Lucky Luke?

Attached: luke[1].jpg (600x600, 92K)

yes, everyone over 25 knows them

this is one of my favorites youtube.com/watch?v=JtEkUmYecnk

and the Smurfs?

Attached: 91ZtVTE95ZL[1].jpg (1862x2560, 568K)

Had like 20 of them as a kid. Used to read them a lot.

and Gaston Lagaffe?

Attached: gaston_lagaffe_princ[1].jpg (1280x720, 157K)

yes, but i dont remember exactly why
ofc

Attached: West_Highland_White_Terrier_Krakow.jpg (908x761, 205K)

I don't know what the fuck I once read but it had Asterix and Obelix as criminal bikers in France.

I remember this series was playing on a TV in school one time and there was a black character in it and the way it was drawn was hilarious and kids at my school started laughing and pointing at the character. God, I miss school.

and Les Tuniques Bleues?

Attached: Les-Tuniques_bleues_presentent-cavalerie[1].jpg (1319x937, 195K)

This is a good game

Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes

And Achille Talon as well.
French make great comics. We have some great ones such as Dirkjan and De Generaal and Heinz but they're not popular outside of the Netherlands.

>French
Belgians too of course

Achille Talon must be quite hard to translate.

Attached: Achille Talon.jpg (646x523, 168K)

and Pif et Hercule?

Attached: ph.jpg (281x445, 35K)

I used to watch them all the time, good times

How many of you know Thorgal?

Asterix and Thorgal were two of my favorite comic books to read as a kid.

Attached: 574333.jpg (1280x1806, 703K)

It's well known, but I've never read it. Rosinski is quite a famous author. As well as Van Hamme.

Attached: 9782505073772-couv[1].jpg (2845x3756, 3.55M)

We dont talk about *that* album

No, but I know Blueberry

Very funny, although I did not really get all the references when I read it as a child. But this is one of the things I love about Astérix, it offers a lot for adults as well.

Someone gave me one album when I was a kid. it was the one where they go to the Netherlands. That was a little confusing.

They are very enjoyable in their Dutch translation, the translators did an amazing job I've been told. I wish I'd gone through the trouble of picking French in secondary school, just for the comics and my current studies.

No, never heard of it even though I know of Leonard despite never having read it.
