It was just this once but when I checked twitter because I was curious I saw that a fuckton of people were alerted. I mean I care about a girl being abducted but this doesn't seem very organized. Maybe they hope someone will see the car in the next few days. Other than that, they were last seen so fucking far from me that it it's pretty futile to show me.

the CRTC decided that all Canadians will receive all alerts regardless of their alert settings. Normally the emergency alert/government alert system has different types of alerts (AMBER, extreme whether, etc)with all being optional outside of presidential alerts which cannot be disabled.
In the CRTCs infinite wisdom, they decided that all alerts are important "because they are all a matter of life and death for you personally" and chose to only use presidential alert type, even for things that are not relevant to 99% of people like fucking AMBER alerts
good news is if you're rooted you can block them, but that also means if a nuke is coming you won't see that either (not that it matters since 99% of people are too dumb to block it anyways and they can just tell you)
