Any isrealis/jews have seen this series? What did you think of it? Did you find it realistic? I think it is very interesting how ultra orthodox jews live, but this show seems to portrait a more moderate neighbourhood/families

My dad watched a couple episodes and he seemed to like it and thought it was accurate. If you want an idea of how orthodox Jews live it's something like:
1. Wake up
2. Pray
3. Go to Mikva (like a bath house)
4. Pray
5. Pray pray pray
6. More praying
7. Holiday praying (theres so many fucking holidays)
8. Pray and eat food then pray more
9. Sleep.

Then do it all over again.

That's interesting, thanks for the reply. It's almost as if they were monks. What about marriage, education and such? Is it all within the family, socialising, educating, celebrating, etc ?

Depends on how religious you are. I think the show is set in Beit Shemesh which is one of the most religious (and worst parts) of Israel. You're allowed (and expected) to socialize with everyone. Marriage is only between Jews.

Orthodox Jews are expected to study Today all day in Yeshiva where they read and argue about different interpretations and rabbinical points of view. The women are supposed to work while the husbands sit and learn.

Celebrating is very expected by both men and women. It's considered a good deed (a mitzva) to be happy. Every holiday has it's own custom and most of them involve wine.

Yeah it's related to fanaticism. One of my buddies from Jerusalem had his grandpa who lived there but wasn't haredi (orthodox). He sent me pictures of kids just throwing trash at cars, littered playground, just fucking monkeys.

That's not to say being religious is inherently bad, but beit shemesh/mea shearim are really up there with some of the most disgusting awful places in Israel. Which is a shame considering their history.

I think mental illness in the haredi community is something that needs to be addressed. Not just for autists.

Wow, I had no idea. This is really interesting, one would think it must be impeccable, since almost all religious communities give a lot of attention to hygene (look at buddhist temples and shrines and monasteries, not a spec of dust, or agion oros)

I wish I knew. You're supposed to bathe every day in the mikva, but when I took the bus from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem, every haredi I sat next to smelled like shit. Theres nothing in the Torah that says you can't wear deodorant or have to wear their long thick black coats, which the ashkenazis brought from Poland, but people decided to do it anyways. It's a weird situation.

Haredi is mostly Ashkenazi or Sephardic?
