I need a better table and some bookshelves. I wouldn't mind a high-quality armchair too but without the first two I don't have a desk to write at or anywhere to store books and notebooks without crowding over my computer desk and taking the keyboard away.

That's basically my computer desk, I want a proper desk for serious work.

I'd be concerned about putting my PC on such a desk.

Well it's three planks of wood and that's it.
It's partly rotted and collapsed and a really rough surface covered by a kitchen table cloth to cancel it out.

If you want a big, sturdy desk at a reasonable price, try office furniture suppliers. They're often cheaper than regular furniture shops and most are happy to sell to private customers. That's how I got my desk a few years ago when I realised that the desks on sale in regular furniture shops were too small for my needs.
