Americans tend to think that their ignorance is just as good as other's expertise, but that is a woefully inadequate approach for anything that isn't personal taste.

I agree that bullshit degrees are useless, however, the mentality of many in America is heavily skewed against anyone who doubts the fiction we feed ourselves about our own culture of opportunity.
No one gets super rich by working hard, they get rich by fucking over other people (like steve jobs or further back, the railroad "robber" barons) or they get lucky. Right family, right genetics and skin color, right place, right time. Miss any one of these qualifiers and your available "opportunity" to make it big enough to make a difference is cut to almost nothing.

If you don't understand how much the laws have been written to benefit those already entrenched in economic and political power, then you haven't been paying attention. Most recently, the difference between how much amazon earns compared to what they pay in taxes. Aren't we supposed to have law against monopolies? Guess they don't apply if you're rich enough, or if you're "too big to fail"

The people who get those bullshit degrees often do so because they want to change things, only to find out they're only qualified to be substitute teachers, who, guess what, will never have enough economic or political power to make a difference. That's why I got into medicine. To make a difference AND make money. And people still act like their ignorance is better than my expertise.
