FCoin voting/competition causing altcoins/tokens to deposit massive amounts of altcoins/tokens into exchange addresses started a few days ago; such deposits are made with very high gas prices in order to beat the competitors to it.
Competition has no end date.

ETH needs to stop being used as a currency and instead as gas for processing tx as originally designed. If people want a minable currency for the ethereum network they should be using 0xbtc instead as the trading pair. This will fix the out of control tx costs.

I deposited and withdrew from MEW today, payed over the odds on IDEX for GAS. Deposit took about 5 minutes but withdrawal took about 3 hours. How much gas did you use?

that may be the issue. i set the gas price to the default value of 21000, on etherscan the transaction shows as "0.000000021 Ether (21 Gwei)".
