Is this worth learning?

For a total noob is it worth learning it. I'm just trying to start a few small businesses and stuff. Knowing how to make a good website site is always nice. Is it hard tho? How long will it take me to become decent at it. It's just for myself. So the other option is pay pepple or shopify if possible.

wordpress is for pussies, learn to code

you're not gonna make it user

Its not that hard.

Yes, it gets shit done. It runs php

Learning Wordpress is as much valuable as learning Microsoft Word.

You won't go far only with it.
Learn to code.

It last easy af should take a weekend to learn and a few months to master

Wordpress has some of the worst code I've ever seen. It's all function calls that output HTML. It's a huge mess and I would advise looking for something else or writing your own from scratch. You will learn nothing from working with Wordpress other than how to write shit code.

For a simple business website it gets the job done.

While I get what you guys are saying, i'm not looking to persue a coding career or become a freelancer.
So basiclly is the time you need to learn wordpress worth the skills you get from it? Coding a whole site seems like way too big of a hassle for me.

ok so aside from "learn to code"...what specific languages would you recommend learning. No cobol haskell pls. I thought django was shit, people don't use ruby any more..is this true? What would you guys recommend learning? NodeJS / Angular?

html+css+javascripts
angularj, jquery
after all of that and y set to go mah frens .

PHP is a good backend language to get started with but if you want something more robust, I'd suggest Go. As for frontend, I really like angular (angular2+, not angularjs), although it has a steep learning curve.

y may consider some severside language like php or asp.net or java that suit your taste, requirment

Learn to actually code, you pussy.

Thanks man. So wordpress is entry level and nobody fucks with django much. You would use this combination of languages to code a site from ground up? User databases and shit still sql? aws is decent for getting sites off the ground? Maybe this is more of a Jow Forums thread.
Thanks. pretty familiar with php. I don't know much about golang or angular2.

Any places you'd recommend studying this? community college doesn't offer this and codeacademy seems easy and not good. I guess I have basic programming experience but I don't fully understand how everything ties together with the server / back end.

Well server side/ backend is kinda the same shit to me.
You have to do some research to know the detail about the difference between front and back end.
To put this simple front-end code is what running on the user computer in their Web browser. Server-side/backend is da one running on the server that do calculation and shit then sent the result to frontend part for user.

Go and Angular both have pretty good tutorials and documentation on their sites.
I'd suggest learning angular first and then start connecting it to a backend API using Go or PHP.

>use this combination of languages to code a site from ground up? User databases and shit still sql?
Yes, absolutely can.
Well it's depend the complexity of the database y deal with. If there is too much objects and value or specific requirement on db then y would need to design backend to specific which value and data wil be sent to user on their request to avoid unnecessary access to a database.
There is another reason is security when y use front-end to connect and query value which mean you are giving browsers direct access to your database.

angular, php and python are dying (so is wordpress).

Nowadays it's all nodejs back end and react/redux front end. It's also the easiest thing to learn and has the most tutorials so you're in luck.

Fuck Wordpress. Used it for years. It’s a mess. Use Squarespace. So much easier and cleaner. Comes with merchant tools and a store.

If you have the right connections and can sell yourself buildings websites with WordPress is a pretty fucking lucrative business.

T. I manage servers for a firm which basically only does websites with WordPress and prestashop
