Why is Trezor considered safe when all you have as protection is the 4 digit pin?

Why is Trezor considered safe when all you have as protection is the 4 digit pin?
if someone steals it he can easily bruteforce it. am I wrong?

thanks, I probably miss something

I know that NanoLedger wipes the device after 3 wrong attempts, trezor probably has the same functionality

Probably because its offline and not online. I don't think the 4digit stuff has been taken into consideration to say its more safe.

lul what if you lose the seed and someone steals it and wipes it? they don't have a strong password option?
I find it much easier to steal a physical device than a wallet.dat converted to Hit_me_baby_one_more_time.mp3 stored on a truecrypt drive with a strong password stored on keepass?

it's because when you want to send a TX... compute never sees your private keys, u dumb fuck... it's the only way to safely send TXs

jesus, you're brainfucked... you clearly dont understand what hardware is primarily for... it's for using... if you want to leave your crypto, paper wallet is enough... IT'S FOR SAFE USING!

I believe on Trezor if you get it wrong 3 times you have to wait 20s, if you get it wrong again you have to wait 1min, then 5min, then 1h,2h etc etc

I didn't know that, this is why I'm asking. you must have tons of friends
so that covers some part of the security, but still, a 4 digit pin is pretty shitty no?

its open source...the ledger is not

>Why is Trezor considered safe when all you have as protection is the 4 digit pin?
you can use a pin & a password! each password will create a new wallet!

just get both

You're welcome: "There are 9 different numbers on the PIN pad, so the most secure PIN would consist of 9 different numbers, in a random, non-sequential order."

Trezor vs Ledger

Trezor is fully open source and open hardware

Nano isn't... just the apps on it are open sourced, trezor is all the way better...

>paper wallet is enough
ONLY if you boot into a clean live version of linux to create the paper waller!
Don't just make through windows, seen a few Anons fucked this way

the thing is, you can safely send crypto TXs even on a hacked computer with hardware wallet, that's the whole point of hardware wallets... no one can get to your private keys.

jesus, CANT YOU READ?????

are u braindead? i clearly said papre wallet is enough if you dont want to use the funds... other than that hardware wallet for safe using.

hm, didnt read it... me ADHD... of course... And only keks are using window,s lol... unix all the way, either Linux or Mac... it's way better than fucking anything from MS.

>wallet.dat converted to Hit_me_baby_one_more_time.mp3 stored on a truecrypt drive with a strong password stored on keepass

That would be a pain to use, and you'd be exposed once you try to spend some coins (unless you have an airgapped machine running a Tails LiveCD where you sign your transaction...etc etc)...

Hardware wallets are for SPENDING.
You can connect it to any virus-filled/malware-filled computer and send your transaction, and you are at ZERO risk of having your keys stolen or the destination address replaced while you are signing the transaction (when you are 100% sure of the address you are sending it to) as the address is also displayed on the device, which viruses cannot tamper with.

It's basically something you can use so that you can safely access your coins anywhere, on ANY computer.

People using it as a paper wallet are COMPLETELY missing the point.

>jesus, you're brainfucked... you clearly dont understand what hardware is primarily for... it's for using... if you want to leave your crypto, paper wallet is enough... IT'S FOR SAFE USING!

CANT YOU READ YOU FUCKIN ARROGANT TARD!

MY POINT IS THAT A PAPER WALLET NEED TO BE MADE PROPERLY YOU FUCKING ARROGANT NEWFAG!!!!!!!

CANT YOU READ?????

The absolute state of biz

kek, its great isn't it! I do love this place!

You should also set up a secure passphrase in addition to the pin you absolute brainlet. Read the documentation.

You can and should also setup multiple wallets so you have plausible deniability in the event of a wrench attack.

>fresh linux install with your wallet of choice
>never connect to internet again
>generate transactions offline
how is a trezor/nano in any way safer than this?

You are 100% correct user, hardware wallets are a meme. If you have a good password, not even the NSA can steal your bags.

lol you're an idiot... hardware wallets are meant for safe spending... how do you safely create a TX from your flash drive? you're a retarded idiot

Have to download linux iso and wallet binaries and verify that they are legitimate so you're not generating an insecure seed key. Have to ensure that nothing is modified as you burn it on a disk.

Have to use a separate air-gapped PC to boot up your image, install the wallet (and figure out any dependencies whilst airgapped), xfer the transaction from networked PC onto USB to the airgapped PC to sign it, then back again, then finally broadcast the transaction.

Lmao, the whole process is a pain in the ass, trust me I used to do it with the armory wallet back in the day any time I had to make a transaction.

Stop being such a complete poor fag and get a hardware wallet, nothing beats the convenience & security.

You missed the part that each wrong attempt adds 40 seconds exponentially speaking they'd have to get it right in about 15 tries or it'll take 55 years

>Not protecting with passphrase
Not gonna make it, user

Who is going to physically attack you in real life?
1. He has to know you own crypto
2. The whole point of crypto is to be anonymous

>2018
>not using a ledger or trezor
>he actually has to see his private key to spend

You're not anonymous faggot.
