Hello, OP, I am a white man (whether or not you really are). India is not my favorite country (mine is the USA, of course!), but I work in a grocery store with many Indian customers, and I have a positive opinion of Indian people based on my daily personal interactions with them, over two years-despite the caste stuff and the murdering of unborn girls, of course.

Above all, the ones here are very kind and protecting with their young children. I can see the love as parents interact with their children. "yes-yes, come-come", whether in their own language (whatever it is, hindi/urdu/dialects etc) or expressed in English.

Secondly, they aren't assholes or stuck-up. If you make a reasonable effort to help them, then they are okay with that. White people are more stuck-up about customer service. Thirdly, they are generally polite and have a slightly funny, very proper accent-the "English-English" influence. I don't mean this as an insult-I like it! I like how they pronounce "ve-ge-ta-bles" in English, and other such words. They're crazy for the roma tomatoes. The local customer base is due to a small tech sector in the midst of greater white America.

Otherwise, I wish the Indian space program well, and I had the pleasure of seeing Zakir Hussain in concert about a year ago, which really was very beautiful. This woman to my right was also into it, and I was impressed. She picked up on my reactions, and even said at one point, knowing much better the modalities: "isn't that beautiful?"
