What's the point of chinatowns in America and Canada?
What's the point of chinatowns in America and Canada?
forget it, Bernd - it's Chinatown
Why do they celebrate Asians not integrating and pretend it's a good thing ghettos of certain ethnicities exist?
Asians cause the least amount of shit while not intergrated
The Chinese are just a large part of the human population and they have been for a long time. In fact 10 years after the fall of the Aztec empire Mexico City had a chinatown.
This question is better asked towards a diasporic chinese person.
Self discrimination combined with extreme restrictions against buying “better” land for them.
>Chinatown in Canada
aka Canada
It's like int general irl
They keep busting human trafficking and sex slavery run by asians. It is their big crime they do in america.
Chinatowns are nothing more than a name for a neighborhood, there are plenty of white and black people running businesses in them and also plenty of Chinese restaurants found outside Chinatown
The only thing setting them apart is that they have need architecture sometimes
Because they aren't ghettos anymore, they're business districts with wacky statues and gates
I used to live in my city's Chinatown. Most Asians live in a more affluent area, mostly Mexicans lived in my Chinatown. But it is a central area for authentic asian restaurants, markets, and grocery stores. Immigrants can go there and usually find products that they'd originally find back home.
Cotainment
Oh yeah this basically. Especially the groceries, when I moved from New York to Pittsburgh I couldn't find none of the shit that I wanted for dinner everything came frozen and microwave ready. There's a lot more fish markets too, I remember eating fish every week to cutting it out of my diet entirely.
this
Originally to isolate Chinese from the general population for any number of reasons, they popped up when both US and Canada needed cheap mobile labour for large infrastructural projects and were mostly set up near ports of entry. Later they became Asian ghettos and now they are more than a little kitsch.
Lack of assimilation for new arrivals here and cheap Chinese knockoffs. To be honest many dont stay in Chinatowns anymore than they have to.
No one celebrates it.
You obviously havent spent much time in NYC. You are right though in that non Chinese live there but they are like the heart of the Chinese diaspora communities.
>There's a lot more fish markets too, I remember eating fish every week to cutting it out of my diet entirely.
I've had bad experience with Chinese fish markets. Cod that was definitely past its prime.
Chinatown in NYC is basically seen as a tourist attraction
zoomers will underrate this post
the chinese mafia does all kinds of shit but yokels only care if a nigger sells hash in the streets
The Chinese gangs are a tiny fraction of the overall, though. Similar to how the Italian crime "families" were/are a tiny fraction of the overall Italian-American communities.
all the chinks behave like a hivemind just like ants
no one is innocent
Tourist bux and prostitution
This. They're tourist traps now.
