It's a stupid meme if you think about it. Modern mining techniques have made it possible to extract more gold in Mexico or Chile alone in one year than the whole Spanish empire mined in 3 centuries. So even if we gave back the loro, it would make absolutely no difference.

The gold and silver had much more value back then. Around half of the worlds silver has been lost, much of it at the bottom of the ocean because treasure fleets kept getting raided. The capital should of helped Spain become the most prosperous nation on earth and remain rich for centuries to come. Instead you guys spent it on churches and more ships to go to the bottom of the ocean. Latin America was rich in silver, not gold (though they did have alot of it)

>churches and ships
Mantaining an empire in europe and wars with anglos, french, dutch and turks

unironically your job lmaaao ahahahahah oh no no no xdd

Yo quiero :3

>treasure fleets kept getting raided.

uh? nope, only two atlantic fleet were captured in 300 years, one by the brits and another one by the dutch, on the pacific side I think we lost four due storms and one by the brits (they used the silver to fund the bank of england), of course some ship here and there got sunk

>Instead you guys spent it on churches

another myth, Spain founded 25 universities in America, much earlier than you and indios and mestizos were allowed to attend them

Si, es un stupid meme, pero es recurrente y divertido.

No le hagas caso al tonto este

Raided means that, raided. I'm not talking about fleets getting exterminated.

What's the point of universities? The British didn't need billions in silver to make theirs, why did you guys need that much?

Also who went to the universities? Spaniards had an abysmal rate of literacy till the 1900's, same as the indios.

Don't speak Mexican, sorry m80

OwO
Eres un mexitrap?
Te gustan grandes?

>Raided means that, raided.

But they weren't relevant besides those two cases in the Atlantic. Hurricanes were a problem.

> None of these attacks took place in open seas.

>In the case of the Manila galleons, only four were ever captured by British warships in nearly three centuries: the Santa Anna by Thomas Cavendish in 1589, the Encarnación in 1709 by Woodes Rogers, the Covadonga by George Anson in 1743, and the Santísima Trinidad in 1762.

I was wrong, we lost four to the brits in the Pacific.

>What's the point of universities?

Are you really asking this. One of Darwin relatives was surprised when he visited Chile and found many natives holding important positions even inside the church. In any case, Spain built tons of hospitals, roads, aqueducts and stuff, churches usually were founded by the people, not the crown, just like tjhey did in Spain.
