Music, cinema, tv, radio, absolutely everything done in Spanish sounds disgusting, i'm a Spanish speaker and i can tell you that this language is disgusting, all the songs sound the same m, thats why i only listen English music

Is Macario shit?

Mexican directors produce crap. Americans think they're good because Hollywood only cares for profit so they pump out capeshit and generic trash

excluding roma, all of these guys' most successful films were produced in spain or america, so i'm guessing there's a lack of incentive from mexican companies/government

Where is the KKK when you need them

>Del Toro
Hack
>Cuarón
Americanized trash.
>Iñárritu
Has been a complete hack since Birdman. Average since Babel.

Also answering your question.
Because mexican producers don't have much money and produce shitty telenovelas.
The ones who do produce shit like club de cuervos.

At least they have good directors

Gravity and Children of Men were great tho

So what film is she going to star in next?

None because she doesn't know english

Soap operas are what people are into not movies

Because the kind of movies they want to direct would not do well at all in the Mexican domestic market. It's a lot easier to make a telenovela that costs $50,000 per episode and makes it back 100 times in sponsorships and advertisements than spend $30,000,000 on a movie that might not even make up for costs.

What about the Mexican film industry?

Shit cameo in a netflix original series like Narcos or Club de Cuervos

It's kinda dead and now it's just a race to the bottom with how cheaply you can make a movie and get the largest return possible.

The Mexican film industry from the 1940s until the 1970s made a lot of movies about Mexican history and these generally did very well, but it was essentially killed with easier access to American cinema and no Mexican film studio can afford to make a movie on an American budget (or even a European budget at that) so rather than attempting to compete with American films, Mexican studios just make telenovelas and cheap, schlocky comedy movies that cater to the lowest common denominator. This is why Mexican actors, writers, and directors will usually just move to America or Spain to work on anything of substance.

Degeneration of Mexican culture and values. Mexico has always been a pretty shitty and poor country, but 60 years ago most people at least had a certain set of values and pride for their culture which meant that there was a niche but healthy market for historical and religious films, but all of that is gone now.
