I can speak basic french, enough to survive (I can have 5 min conversations, ask for things etc.) but my writing and grammar and spelling are atrocious. Should I just read or do I need lessons at this point?

Your turn

How difficult is speaking and listening to Mandarin if I am incapable of discerning tones?

Hello, frens! I need an advice. I used to learn German almost 7 years ago and got a B1. I stopped because I had school and extracurricular activities. Now, I want to continue but in this time of year, I can't find classes. So, should I try by myself or wait until September?

Attached: 1551576034573.jpg (625x469, 189K)

Does anyone have a PDF of Zertifikat B1 Prüfungsziele, Testbeschreibung by Hueber?

Learn German with us, I use Duolingo

"I have eaten enough" and "I ate dog" differ only in tone on a single syllable.
我吃够了。v 我吃狗了。

But in reality you think tones are harder than they are. You can create them because English uses them as well. Thr only difference is that English uses them to add emotional/contextual cues while Chinese uses them to distinguish words, so you are less conscious of using them. Try saying "Huh?" as if someone just said something retarded. Bam perfect exaggerated rising tone. Say that on "cha" and you got tea 茶. Try saying "hmm" with a nod as if someone just said something interesting. Bam perfect exaggerated falling tone; add it to "gou" and its dog 狗. Low dipping and high tons are easy, high you just sing the syllable at around the starting tone of your falling tone, and low dipping you just push it to the bottom of your comfortable vocal range and then pop back up for the next syllable.
Mandarin also has stress, which is fairly intuitive after you listen for a bit and just exaggerates the tone contours and raises the volume of the syllable (as is the def of stress). Listening is harder, but listening is hard in any language. You will notice that native speakers will treat the tones a lot differently from how they are taught to you, because obviously in fast speech things aren't perfect.
Anyways the difficulty in pronunciation is more than made up for by the retard-tier grammar. Writing however tips back the scale in favor of difficulty.

Muy interesante

I did my daily Duolingo while waiting. Ahhh I'm leaving neetdom

>Mandarin also has stress
Stress on top of the tones? I can't even work out the correct stress in sentences in English and it's the only language I speak.

What kind of job is the interview for?

It barely matters. Basically multi-syllable words only get stressed on first syllable, and counter words are usually less stressed, esp ge 个. Completely unstressed syllables lose their tone.

>I'm from SE Asia

It's like something subtle that a linguist would find interesting but everyone speaking the language does automatically.

I think i'm too dumb for Hindi. Even just reading about Devanagari is confusing the fuck out of me, never mind trying to hear the difference between the consonants.

I’m trying to learn Spanish for obvious reasons but I find myself being able to read it much better than understand it when it’s actually being spoken probably because of how fast it’s spoken

try studying for more than two days

I'm reading through the third Harry Book in Spanish and I still can't understand Spanish speakers when they come up to me at work and ask for help, gotta shamefully ask them to speak English until I get gud at listening

gib challenges pls

What's the lesson about? Forgot about spring break, don't have lab next week :))))

We just go by chapters and discuss a different theme that the book lays out. This chapter was all about religion in society. I think the next lesson is about other issues in society.

I love Azula, she was my favorite villian(?). I wonder how good the dubs are in other languages. Maybe there's good subs out there.

why is french easier than german?

No cases?

It might be a good idea to learn some grammar lessons, but reading probably will help with the spelling.

Practice reading outloud? Maybe watch watch something with subtitles, pause it and repeat what they say the way they said it. Unless your accent is really bad of course. Then you just have to learn the sounds you can't make naturally.

This is basically what happens when you use Jow Forums as your only source of knowledge on anthropology and ethnography.

Duolingo is a fucking godawful meme and I legit don't understand why people unironically use it.
Go for languagetransfer.com άνον, I'm learning Greek from it and it's excellent.

nvm, seems like their site died, not sure if anyone told them, also it was org and not com

Do you also need an explanation? You are really good. Congrats! Do you want me to write the rest of the challenge in Greek?

>"Ποια είναι..."
"ποίος" is more like "which", isn't it? I fall into the trap of translating directly from English, I should do it from Polish because the patterns are far more similar.

I see that most of the errors are conjugations, I know them but I completely forget when I'm in the middle of a sentence. Bad habit, need to work on it.

If you wouldn't mind translating the other sentences in the challenge, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for the kind words άνον

>la pain
More natural sounding to say "mange du pain", some bread instead of the bread.
And here's a fancy é you can copy.

I learned French at school, but it was a long time ago. I think it's time to start learning again, I'd like to.
And I can use diacritics (mobile keyboard), I just don't care lol

I forgot to say that while=ενώ, your sentence made sense so I didn't notice, sorry~

I hope it helps. You are right about "ποιος". If you don't mind me asking, what made you want to learn greek?

>If you don't mind me asking, what made you want to learn greek?
Pic rel's songs and the history of Byzantium
