Makes me wonder about what methodology might be used. For instance, nearly all of our data on religions across Polish population comes from Catholic Church itself and Catholic methodology mandates that Christian-catholic baptism alone is the final word in assigning convictions to a person, hence only numbers taken are total new births, total new baptisms and total of new deaths of baptised people - with the latter being substracted from the former. This means that, once baptized, you are a catholic Pole until your death even if you convert to another religion or abandon it in all entirety.

Yeah I suspect there is fuckery like that afoot here too. I literally didn't meet a single religiously observant person until university - where one of my classmates was from a returned American emigre family and belonged to some weird evangelical sect - yet aparently this country is a roughly even split of catholics, protestants, orthodox and irreligious.
