We've had a couple of moonshiners but everybody did that. We has been a very strict and pious country with basically no crime until the 1970s.

my great grandpa (maternal) once told one of his sons that he had murdered someone.
apparently he had been very drunk and very angry, so he randomly picked a stranger and beat him to death.
in another anecdote he was attacked by unionists because he was a scab, and he beat one of them up so bad that he possibly died. no idea whether any of this is true though.
additionally, I've been told that my paternal grandpa and his siblings were forced into a life of crime because they grew up poor in post-war germany. apparently one of them ran an illegal taxi operation and mugged his passengers.

Sounds like a based lad.
Regardless of anything he did back in the day (I dunno the full extent of it - he did time for property damage and assault because he beat someone and wrecked their car with a bat, but I'm sure there was more than that instance), I only ever knew him as a great guy and a caring grandpa. Definitely very based.
