It's very practical for cutting cord to length, opening packaging, whittling for fun, leverage, flathead screwdriver in a pinch, cutting loose threads before they get pulled, the list goes on. Knives are among the first and more universally enduring tools made by man for good reason.

Well if you make it against the law then people will have no choice but to follow it. Who would want to risk going to jail for 10 years over something so easily avoidable. The OP is a petition site, it's no different to change.org. It's not a law. There are people who vote on these petitions for things like "ban all immigrants" by the hundreds of thousands. All that happens is if it gets to a certain number they talk about it (and quietly ignore it) in parliament.
