Oh wow. Why does a simple tetanus treatment cost over 800.000 dollars in the U.S.?

lmao
to answer your question though it's because medical costs are inflated in this country in the name of 'freedom'
The treatment wasn't simple, he spent weeks in the ICU and needed tons of medical treatment.
Freedom ain't cheap
>$40 uninsured tetanus shot or 800k
tough choice
Are americans possibly the stupidest people in western history?
Because this is a nice country in general, but it sucks absolute balls when it comes to access to healthcare.
More likely than not the parents are poor white trash so they won't pay anything.
Sometimes they come here for treatment.
Actually I looked up and he needed intense care for months, not weeks, and needed to stay in a rehabilitation center.
Oregon will cover the cost of a shot if you can’t pay it, that’s not why. The reason they refused it is that they’re antivaxx retards.
Aren’t tetanus vaccines supposed to be free ?
I mean they won't pay the 800k
The solution to this problem is simple. The state should require all children to be vaccinated, unless they can't be, due to medical reasons. Any parent that objects gets tossed in jail, and their children will be vaccinated anyway.
They potentially are but they refused because they believe that vaccines cause autism.
You guys shouldn't allow that, say that they're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they are rapists, etc.
>we actively lobby against our own interests with regards to healthcare
yes
Makes you think
It really makes you think huh
You get a baby
I guess they’ll never kiss ya (mwah)
The Jews will take his foreskin and he won’t miss yah
He won’t skrrrtt and hit the dab because the United States has the worst infant mortality rates in the world when compared to spending on healthcare
kek I live in San Diego and my parents would take us to Tijuana for dental work when we were little.
Tetanus treatment is anything but simple.
First, you go through the agony of javing every single muscle in the body cramp for weeks, and if the spasms don't end up breaking your spine, you get to learn how to walk all over again.
So that's a few months under emergency care and physiotherapy at least
If I was the kid and went through actual hell itself just because my idiot parents refused to get me vaccinated, I'd apply for foster care from then on
That is still exploitative and highway robbery. Either die, or go into $800k debt. Fucked up situation man :(
>If I was the kid and went through actual hell itself just because my idiot parents refused to get me vaccinated, I'd apply for foster care from then on
I'm genuinely curious how situations like this are going to play out in the future. The poor kid in this story went through horrible agony in his treatment and he still isn't fully protected from tetanus, he must be traumatized (plus all the school he missed since he was out for months). There's one kid who went against his parent's wishes and got vaccinated and is in the news a lot, I wonder if there will be a "children's rights" movements for all the kids who want medical treatments their parents won't allow.
For precedent, there was one child who got cancer treatment when the parents refused it.
The state of our healthcare is a joke, I'm not denying that, but in this case let's not pretend that the parents are fully to blame for the entire horrible situation. That was an easily preventable situation. And to make it worse, they likely won't ever pay for their stupidity, we will.
Actually Americans are bringing infectious diseases to Mexico.
>Measles outbreak originated in Disneyland California spreads to Mexico
medicalxpress.com
Is there a reason why Americans believe this? Or is it a meme?
Misinformation spreads on facebook, idiot soccer moms lap it up. There's also a lot of people here who dislike science/normal medicine and the government.
The real reason Americans are anti-vaxx is because vaccines cost a shitload for a single dose, try vaccinating an entire family while making minimum wage and you can see why people are so skeptical.
Some famous doctor published a paper on it 15 years ago, the yellow press reported it in thousands of "the scientists havd discovered" articles and people all over the world started believing in it.
The whole affair exposed the scientific comunity as a giant circlejerk where big name scientists with connections get to publish whatever the fuck they want, since the people reviewing&accepting their work are either their buddies or asskissers
If it wasn't for the pharmacy companies taking a hit and actually pushing for a review of his study (which turned out to be methodologically flawed, tampered with and bottom line retarded), nobody would have done shit
It was a typicall correlation/cause mixup - the study. Something that wouldn't pass in a bachelor thesis
Universal healthcare.
This is awful bait, they're really cheap and if you're that poor you can get them for free.
he wasn't even famous
he specialised in stomach and intestines and tried to make a link between bowel disease, autism, and the MMR vaccine
when the paper was released multiple studies came out discrediting his findings but the press took hold of it
Or just vaccinate and get insurance. If you're a retard you deserve death.
Americans are an infectious disease themselves desu
This reminds me I gotta go for my next tetanus shot to the public clinic. Oh well, I gotta go to the doc in like a week I'll get it then
based I know people that do the same
I need to re-up on my autism juice as well.
Fucking jurnos
If some treatment is needed for a disease that is extremely rare nowadays because everyone is vaccinated expect it to be quite expensive unless it's something they use for other stuff and just have laying around everywhere.
And months of ICU will put people in debt everywhere but the socialist European countries.
Insurance rarely covers the full bill, you'd still need to pay out of pocket.
