Why do Swedes do this? I can't be the only that thinks this is kind of messed up.
>The extended family has largely lost it's importance in Sweden, because many people have moved from their hometowns to work in orher parts of country. As a result, many elderly may only enjoy family visits on weekends, if the family lives close by, or less frequently, although contact is maintained by other means.
>The elderly are often cared for by the state rather than their relatives.

You realize that shit happens here too, right? My brother in laws cousins live three houses away from their grandparents but haven't visited them in years. My family is super close, we still talk to distant relatives even if they're on the other side of the world but white families tend to not have as strong of a family structure from what I've noticed.
t.flip
Do we? My "family" is pretty messed up so I wouldn't know. I thought Americans took care of their grandparents most of the time unless there was no other choice.
The system is the same in any country where both parents are working in a family. Kids and the elderly are in government institutions.
Also because family help isn't necessarily needed relationships can turn quite sour.
>I thought Americans took care of their grandparents most of the time unless there was no other choice.
I work as someone who buries dead people and am part of the ceremony beforehand. 90% of the time, if it's a white family, the elderly are left to die by their children and do not take care of them up to that point. It's to the point that we have to constantly remind them that if the deceased did not properly write a will stating where their assets go it will all go to the state because the state was taking care of them.
>this is the kind of people who call us mamma bois
fucking disgusting
why do you have a book on swedish culture?
staying home til you're in your 30s is even more fucked. grow the fuck up
>parents kick you out at 18
>they wonder why you dont take care of them when theyre old
i havent spoken to them in 4 years.
Can't think of many western (or even really industrialized) countries that aren't equally atomized.
>Coming from the country where parents charge their children rent.
And what a fucked up thing that is
Yes, but it is incompatible with the modern lifestyle of stagnant wages and growing costs.
Only reasonable to help pay for food and utilities if you are able.
I know some people who actually have gotten charged rent after 18 and that's a bizarre scenario, but I don't see anything wrong with helping your mom with some food and stuff if you have a job.
> liking people
This is why were leading the posts per capita while you third worlders are having "fun" with family
WOW MILLENNIAL dont you WANT to move out and leve your family behind??? lmao everybody look at this baby zoomer!
This is so fucked, honestly. My parents aren't like that and let me live back at home for a few years after hitting financial issues. Probably because they aren't American boomers.
Autist, this is about responsibility not even liking people. You should have filial feelings but if you don't, you should still feel responsible
What created this problem is kids not being raised by the parents and extended family together like it used to and still is in traditional cultures. Everybody is too busy working. Children are literally currently being raised by tablets
Uh this is the norm in America as well. Actually my guess is that it happens in every industrialized nation.
My parents do that. I told them how fucked up it was, but they're threatening to throw me put and there's no where to live here.
