The possible rise of an authoritarian government is another authoritarian Police State, that would prohibited any type of association and etc, China, Belarusian and very other "republics" formed from the previous USSR.
As I said, letting they speak do not blocks you from doing the same, i would say that is better to know who has Nazis tendencies than let a Trojan Horse getting on power places and screwing things over.
I do agree that in practical applications it has flaws, cause that you require a critic, well informed and mature society (That we do not have in any places of the world), but is the best we have for now, even the very on democracy is very flawed in practical there, cause of example Venezuela got to the state it is now by democratically, and than from the position of power the changes were made by the book to perpetuate a person in power in a "democratic way".
