You should try to do freelance one off projects for businesses. Make marketing material for them, social media posts, take pictures of their stuff then edit it for them. This is really not that difficult to get into. Don't try to over complicate it just walk in with your portfolio (make some example marketing graphics) and ask them if they need any help with ANYTHING. Give them ideas on how you can create stuff for them that will get them more sales.

You will get people impressed with your work, you will get people that want to work with you. You just gotta push through the awkwardness and it becomes really comfortable. I promise.

Wow this is pretty good advice. Now that I am moving out and into my own private place, id like to focus more on improving my artistic skills. Since I came out of neetdom again I haven't drawn at all for over a year and a half. I will take this advice to heart and start building my skill back up. Marketing was always something I was interested in. Can I ask why graphic design is degenerate/crushing?

That's what I believe, I've never had a job in a design shop though but I've talked to a friend about it who is employed as one. I have another friend that is employed at a car dealership and she designs marketing material for them, that might be better. Working in a specialized business as their designer. You would have more creativity because you would basically be the boss of the department. Rather than working with a bunch of other designers in a shop.

But for the freelancing route. Lookup businesses in your area on facebook, which ones are posting nice graphics? Approach them. Approach their competitors who ARENT posting anything and say to them "I can make similar graphics for you that your competitor is dominating with!"

The freelancer route is more beneficial, being your own boss allows you to work as an activist more comfortably. No one single entity controls your income when you are a freelancer.
