It's asking the French which country lead to the defeat of the Germans most in the war - in 1945 France was filled with socialistic partisans having propoganda by the Soviet Union shoved down their throats. In 2004 through Soviet Union has long since collapses and their myths rebuked. The Red Army fought hard in the war, no doubt, but American industry played a major role in their counter offensive and Americans were heavily involved in the actual liberation of France so it would make sense that the French now believe Americans were primarily responsible for defeating the Germans. I'd probably disagree and say that the Eastearn Front was more important but whatever. Without American industry the Soviet offensive would've stagnated
