Happened during WW2. Canadian and US forces invaded an island that we didn't know the Japanese had already abandoned, then we mistook each other for enemies and shot at each other.

What about the time the Mongols invaded and raped your asses?
I've read about it. It's impressive, Hollywood movie tier. Bit like this guy: en.wikipedia.org
>he single-handedly liberated the city of Zwolle from German army occupation.
wot
>Probably the winter war
You got wrecked in winter war. You had infinitely more men and resources along with superior military technology and infrastructure.
Finns literally wiped your asses with technique and effort until you zerg rushed them.
Kill ratio was astonishing for a minuscule amount of clay.

Interesting story, I've never heard about it.
It should've been vice versa
Greatest military moment? Routing the Iraqi army in 5 days during the Gulf War.
Worst? Probably the attempted invasion of Quebec in the Revolutionary War.
>group of ragtag militia with no shoes and about 20 cartridges was supposed to take over a place garrisoned with British regulars during wintertime in Canada of all places
He is probably so-called "Russian liberal".
How to become one?
1)Be Russian.
2)Hate Russia.
3)Call everything great but Russian as obsolete utter shit.
4)Get on your knees and suck everyone's dick as a pay for them beating Russian out of you.

But imo losing to Japan in Russo-Jap war might be worse than losing to Finland in Winter war.
Russian Tsar called Japanese yellow island monkeys only to lose them later. JP basically sneaky destroyed Russia's entire Eastern fleet (like they did USA in pearl harbor). Russia lost some clay. Also the only time a European power in the colonial age lost to a non-white colonial power. Russian lives lost but not as many as in winter war.
On the other hand, Winter war kind of got Russia a bit of clay at a very high life count. Moral defeat since Finns showed Russia only good at winter war against poorly equipped Germans/French from warm places.
forgot my picture
p.s. Mongol invasions not worse than losing to Finns/Japs?

Russo-Jap war was a bad one not because of the losses, but because of how it ended.
Japs were about to flop and reparations would fix a lot of troubles.
But because intel in Tsarist Russia was crappy, We never knew about it.
So then we activated Damage Control, and ended up with worst peace treaty ever existed.

Thirty Years' War, WW1 and WW2 were much worse for Germany, the 7 Years' War isn't comparable
like how Goku beat Bu
>worst then brest-litowsk where you lost 1/3 of your population, 2/3 of your coal mines and nearly all of fertile farm land
u w0t m8?
Dunno, Prussia could have been crushed there for good and forever.
But WW2 was worse for sure, from a military position
Actually, winter claims nowhere near as close as early spring and later autumn, where logistics turn into shit because every road that's not asphalt one turns into swamp.
That's also the main reason why the bulk of russian lands will never be developed - permafrost lands turn into swamps at summer, eating any efforts to construct anything that wouldn't actually float. That means no cheap and/or reliable roads. Good luck developing anything if the only options available are small planes and helicopters (Which can't operate in blizzards safely).
USA
Probably. Revolutionary war or Cold war. Wouldn't really say WW2. USA helped out a lot in WW2, but we kinda look a support role without really putting out chips in on one side until later. We made up for more than our share when we did arrive, but Britain deserves MVP of Allies side since they were there from the beginning (cunts started the war). Russia had the human numbers.
Probably Civil War or 1812. People like shitting US about Nam, but that was like 1 battle in the cold war. Also US domestic life/economy/infrastructure was largely not impacted. Civil war on the other hand was tons of Americans killing themselves on their own soil. The north ended up better, but the south ended up worse and it's impact still felt today. 1812 was a poorly thought out invasion. Sure US sacked and burned Toronto, but Brits also burned Washington back (US left washington early with valueables to avoid British sacking).Ultimately another bloody war at home with no real benefit. TBF I feel like USA just did that one for France since we were such good buddies and they just helped us out against Britain, then sold us that Louisiana clay, and we were trading with them which caused a US-Brit rift.

1812
ooh-suh.
Best: the 1 year campaign in Europe from Overlord to V-E Day. Tens of thousands of aircraft, thousands of tanks, hundreds of ships, and millions of men were neutralized at the expense of 760,000 casualties (580,000 American) in a cross continental effort still unmatched in scale.
Worst: Iraq. Most would say Vietnam because it's the only clear loss in U.S. military history, but the North Vietnamese had in total millions of soldiers (according to their records 1.1 million of their men died in the war), a very advanced and well constructed doctrine, an experienced and well trained army, and an industrial base provided by the USSR. They also spanked the French and Chinese easily before and after. There was some honor fighting them. With Iraq there's nothing. We wasted 2 trillion dollars and 5,000 lives pounding sand and shooting goat herders for 15 years.
nothing beats the dicking that Germany got in the 20th century

-5 degrees? Anyway, Winter War had temperatures up to -30 degrees and more, for troops in poor gear. It wasn't nice

Those were sneak attacks which barely fit into the legal lingo of international law. Sending a declaration of war right as you attack isn't a great victory.
You could literally pick from the countless honorable samurai battles, to those high kill ratio ones against china, or even ones where you were wrecking the aussies or US/CA en.wikipedia.org
>People like shitting US about Nam, but that was like 1 battle in the cold war. Also US domestic life/economy/infrastructure was largely not impacted.
Not directly however the war had many, many indirect effects particularly economic. It was one major reason why Japan gained a foothold in the consumer electronics/appliance market in the US, because a sizable portion of US manufacturing was tied up supporting the war effort in Vietnam, but imports of Japanese goods made up for the shortfalls and there was no rationing or cutbacks like in WWII or Korea.
The enormous costs of the war (combined with the costs of the Great Society and the race to the Moon) contributed to the 70s inflation epidemic.
>mfw Austria almost dominated all of Europe

Actually it was a political defeat, militarily it was a rough stalemate.
what are you talking about?
The one who lost everything is probably gypsies.
They are doomed to dissolve as we speak and they can't be heard over the sounds of people reminding you about six millions.
>Vietnam because it's the only clear loss in U.S. military history
Civil war
it's technichally a loss against yourselves
-10 degrees is the average. Both in Finland and in Ukraine. If it sometimes can go as low as -30 in Finland, this also occasionally happens in Ukraine.
As someone who moved to St. Petersburg from someplace far to the South-East, I can tell you that winter is much milder here than there, even though St. Petersburg is technically in the North.
before the turks started fucking with the HRE the austrians almost got complete domination of Europe because they had royal heirs in every country, think about it, they almost conquered a continent by fucking everything that moves
Eh. It was bad, but not nearly as bad as what Euros did to non-Euros. Germany wasn't split up and colonized (even after the 2nd time).
In respects to Germany's history though.... it hard to say for a non-German. Was the 19-20th century an age of greatness for Germany where it became a great power that lead in sciences and potentially conquered Europe? Or was it a time where it got dicked twice and got shacked to racial guilt for the future?
The side left holding the field is the victor.
The question was the worst military moment, not necessarily the worst defeat. In terms of wastage for literally zero return, and international embarrassment, Iraq is unrivaled.
True tho. Russian-German Alliance when?
It's not a loss, come on.
I mean, America sure went medieval at OPFOR ass in this one.

Yes and we still held the field when we pulled out in 1973, we were no longer in Vietnam when the North overran South Vietnam two years later.
>the cunt where white people got shackeled up and march on plantations while blacks whip them is talking about racial guilt
can't make that up
that was the Habsburgs, not Austria. Spain was more probably more important to the Habsburgs than Austria. And the Habsburgs lost Spain due to the French (in the war of the Spanish succession), not due to some crusade.
>In respects to Germany's history though.... it hard to say for a non-German. both
Actually Austrian supremacy only ends with Napoleon. Even if you're talking about the ottomans, they wheren't relevant until 1500's and the crusades happen in 1100.
War always has an impact. I meant Nam's impact at home compared to Civil war or 1812 that were both fought on US soil. Civil war was not only deadly, but had long lasting effects on the south. Even now the south has some of the lowest income and HDI in the US.

I don't think that at this rate we will be able to forge any long-term alliances.
What about the conquest of Latin America?
Hey if you don't feel any guilt about it then fine by me. USA didn't pay reparations to blacks for slavery. Germany did pay to Jews and Israel.
We fucked everyone. Yeah.
Why is every spaniard shittalking franco? He made spain the 4th largest economy in the world and he kept you out of the war

well, Spain got dicked by a bunch of homeless farmers with machetes and stolen rifles with almost no training

Germany just absolutely wrecking France after they spent all time time building their impenetrable Maginot line will always be one of the greatest military moments in history. The fact that Germany just went around just makes it so much more hilarious.
Spain has never been the fourth economy of the world after 1707, he destroyed the country, and it was actually Hitler that kept Franco out of the war, because he didn't want to have a second Italy to carry.

it wasn't "just going around it"... it was conducting a large armored and mechanized offensive through a small area which was considered impenetrable, which cut off the bulk of the Franco-British army
now we just need an Aussie talking about how they held out against the nazis but also about how they got destroyed by birds
>which was considered impenetrable
or rather, inadequate for a mechanized force to cross, not impenetrable. it wasn' defended well. the other areas outside from the Maginot line were defended very well
